School known for being a hotbed of gangland activities Before we discuss about the topic, let us define gangland activities. According to Oxford Dictionary, gangland means the world of organized and violent crime while activities mean a situation in which something is happening or a lot of things are being done. These help us to understand that gangland activities generally mean crime action. Nowadays, we can see that teenagers getting involved in gangland activities. What are the causes lead to this phenomenon? We are going to discuss about the causes from several aspects. In a study on "gangland activities among secondary school" by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Crime Prevention Foundation of Malaysia indicated that students participate in gangland activities because of the main four main factors – peer group, family, living environment and academic achievement which we will further discuss later. Most of the teenagers that involved in gangland activities are teenagers with low academic achievement or low school performance. This is because some teenagers with low academic achievement can’t differentiate whether the action suggested by their peers are good or bad. They easily get influenced and sometimes without noticing what they are doing was wrong. On the other hand, when teenagers have low academic achievement, they might get look down by others not only students but also teachers and this will definitely cause them to feel inferior. Involved in gangland activities will be a protection for them as when they doing gangland activities, people will get frightened by their fierce and scared of them.
