Language has been an essential element in my life for years; although, it gradually became one of the main parts of it through various events: travelling, going abroad to study, and teaching. During my travels and year abroad, I became aware of the fact that Language is much more than just a combination of letters, it is a powerful tool that can allow one to immerse in a foreign culture. During my time teaching I have also learned that language can be used to bring people together. Moreover, through that experience I have realized that teaching is hard, tiresome, and complicated; yet, it is what I want to do in my life. As I have previously mentioned, language and linguistics have been a relevant part of my life for years. …show more content…
I taught Italian to both Japanese and foreign students in a program called Coffee Hour. This experience, in part, is what helped me realize that, if this were to be my job in the future, I would be fortunate. To me, teaching is all about interacting with people and conveying them your love for the subject. If I were to choose a career today, I would choose language teaching. To be specific, teaching language to foreigners. Considering that I speak many idioms, I would like to use them to help other people. I would like to teach to foreigners the language of the country in which they choose to live in. I want to help them feel as at home as possible. As a person who has lived in a foreign country and travelled, I know how it feels to be considered an outsider because your language skills are not impeccable. With regard to my professional goals, my aim is to undertake an employment that could allow me to help others to integrate in a new community. Even though it might be an ambitious plan, in the future I would like to open a language school and also use it as a center where foreigners can come if they need advice on how to adapt to the new country, language or society. In case thi plan did not go well, ten years from now I see myself teaching at an ESL
Teaching is a big part of me as I have taught many of my friends and other students. I have used my talent as an artist to give life to the words and diagram in the textbook. I have used my art to help people visualize abstract thinking and understand different concepts, especially when it comes to chemistry, biology, and physics. Through the art, I have tried to make a learning more of a fun and challenging by using the ideas of everyday objects. Because art has a more flexibility when it comes to how it is presented, I have tried to include my art and animation in different presentations.
The language I grew up with.” (Cohen, 2017, p. 416.) Looking at theses essays, it’s clear that language isn’t just a way to communicate it’s an important part of my identity and culture.
Many will never be able to grasp the full capacity of the power of language. Although, some of us can experience the depths of its ability through personal experience of upbringings and struggles. Jimmy Santiago Baca in “Coming into Language” talks about his own obstacles he had to overcome and how language became a way of life through the dark times of hopelessness. Whereas, Christine Marin in “Spanish Lessons” used language to find and learn about her identity to later become a voice for it and also make a difference in the community. These stories and our own backgrounds with language allow us to understand its capabilities of how it can transcend the mere means of just communication into a world of discovery and exploration.
As a qualified CELTA teacher I would initially like to start working in one of numerous Croydon colleges, and in the further future possibly teach English as a Foreign Language in another European
Throughout generations cultural traditions have been passed down, alongside these traditions came language. The language of ancestors, which soon began to be molded by the tongue of newer generations, was inherited. Though language is an everlasting changing part of the world, it is a representation of one’s identity, not only in a cultural way but from an environmental standpoint as well. One’s identity is revealed through language from an environmental point of view because the world that one is surrounded with can cause them to have their own definitions of words, an accent, etc. With newer generations, comes newer forms of languages.
The Power of Language James Baldwin’s idea of language being the “key to one’s identity” is a correct assessment. The manner in which a person speaks or what they say often acts as a highway leading directly to private information that creates their identity. This can reveal to a person’s audience their level of education, level of confidence, and how they may fit in with those surrounding them. With taking these factors into consideration, it can be understood that your language defines who you are.

“Language is an important source of evidence for what that system is like. (Lakoff, Johnson 1)” I agree with this statement because language preserves a culture. We are taught what our ancestors were taught long time ago. Studying the language will give an insight of what the culture is like.
I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily. Teaching can leave a lasting impression in a child’s life and offers a special opportunity to shape the bright young minds of future generations. While many professions can be impactful, I believe the qualities of the person in the career position to be the most influential.
The students will develop pride in themselves and their heritage.
