I’ve grown up thinking that America had been such a place. There was countless times that America was faced with making decisions that were incredibly undemocratic. For instance , Women’s rights, religious freedom, and rights for slaves were virtually nonexistent.
When I was six years old, living in Ethiopia, my dad won an American green card visa lottery among 53,000 people. Although it was exciting news, family members were discouraged because my dad could not afford the visa processing and traveling expense. However, he found a sponsor in Seattle, which allowed him to settle in America. As soon as he found a good house and a stable job, he started the process for me and my family. Multiple errors and obstacles delayed our processing for five years.
For every individual, it is instinctive to want the American dream and to want to provide a good life for his/her family. Source 2 states the foundation of the American dream: “A land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” As shown, the American dream is the pressing drive for peoples’ desire to move into gentrified areas. Reduced crime, refurbished houses, and good schools are appealing to anyone. Although, it is unfortunate that wealthier families have a negative reputation of being arrogant, greedy, and callous just because of their more ostentatious lifestyle.
Everyone tends to have a different opinion when it comes to topics such as politics, national security, and health care. That is why it is so hard for America to pull itself together. Democrats claim one way is the best route, while Republicans tend to have a different view. We all fly the same flag and we all are under the same authority, so we must all be able to answer the same simple question. How can we make America great again?
The struggles to reach the American Dream are poverty, education, and language barriers. Poverty can cause struggles to reaching the American Dream due to the loss of money. Education that is not completed can also get in the way of the American Dream. Thirdly, if you are not able to the American language, it's difficult to even try to achieve the American Dream. Poverty is a real struggle, especially when it causes you to be considered "abnormal".

In 2013 my parents told me we were moving to United States at first I didn't want to come, I had my life already done there I have many friends all my family living near I could go and visit them when I wanted, then I start realizing that it would be a good idea to get to know a different country and other people. When I got here my thoughts were that it was going to be so difficult to get used to a new place, but actually it wasn’t. I went to many parts of the country my favorite was Las Vegas everything was beautiful there. I got to visit my family and go to other states that is one of the things I will never regret for coming to a new country. One of the things that was most difficult for me was to get used to the food it tastes different specially tortillas, cheese, corn, beans and ham but also here the food tastes really good, food that I had never tasted where I live before.
The real question is, is the American Dream a reality, or is it just a dream? To me the American dream is making money, a supporting loving family, and having a career you love. I think that many people come to the U.S. looking for their own idea of The American Dream, but in my opinion I’m not sure how much of the american dream still exist. There is many obstacles for the dream; endless you 're born into your wildest dream. For immigrants coming from different countries grasping their dream can be very hard.
Coming To America Moving from my village in Nairobi, Kenya seemed like a very distant and unimaginable situation which I gave no thought to at that moment in time. However, that soon changed when the news of our departure to a new country came to our doorsteps. My family and relatives were happy for us and as they gave their farewells but I felt longing to stay and not leave a place where I called home for so many years.
As I ponder over my life, each memory seems identical to the other, and I find myself drifting through a reality of similar events that generate the same memories and emotions. Looking back further into my childhood includes memories of my homeland. I remember entering a new world at the age of five, where all of my later memories would be formed. This was when my family moved to the United States from Peru, my native country in the South. The complete change in culture and values truly impacted me when I first moved to Florida, and I reflect over the significant effect it has had on my character during the last thirteen years of my life.
In the current political environment, the question “What does it mean to be an American” is one that really caused me to think and reflect deeply. And while some are vowing to “Make America Great Again”, I think there are already a number of things that already make America great and make me proud to be an American. Early on, our founding fathers suggested through the Constitution that at its core, what it meant to be American was simply “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

The most common and typical American Dream is the dream of being super successful and wealthy. It’s been a common belief for many years that when you come to America you can get rich very easily and do anything you want. Even though most people have a lot better opportunities in America then their home countries, getting rich and famous is still pretty challenging for most people. Their are a few people that actually became rich and famous from coming to America, but its very few compared to those who don’t become rich and famous. Most people who come to the U.S. do not become rich but they do become more wealthy then they were in their home countries because of how poor some of the other countries are compared to America.
