Typically, it is accepted that there are around seven universal emotions, that is, those emotions are expressed by all humans which are happy, sad, surprise, disgust, anger, fear and contempt. Emotions, from an evolutionary perspective, allow humans to make fast decisions about whether to reject food, flee, attack, defend, or approach an unknown person or thing. These emotions can override basic, fundamental human motivation toward sex, hunger, and even the will to survive. They also may lead us to act in ways we think are appropriate at the time, but that we can come to regret later. There is, of course, a mental aspect. When you are angry, you are driven to say cruel things and behave in unfavourable ways. That is the purpose of emotions to drive actions. Often we believe that they are two completely different entities when in fact they go hand in hand. It is impossible to have one without the other. I was once a victim to this mentality until I got older and began to understand what love and friendship really means. We live in a society where the importance of love is associated in a romantic way. People have yet to understand that everything that is good and positive in life stems from love in itself. Love is the quintessential emotion of human existence (Macer, 1998). Few things in life are capable of causing as much joy or as much anguish as love. Love is what holds you together when life tears you apart. Love is amongst the few things in the world that makes life worth living. It is one of the strongest emotions that a human being is capable of feeling. Love is when another person 's happiness, dreams, aspirations, problems become your own.
