Visiting the sacred monkey forest of Ubud Bali is quite a magical sight to see. It’s not everyday that you see scores of monkeys gallivanting about. The forest itself hosts over 115 different species of trees, as well as roughly 600+ monkeys. The monkeys themselves are semi free ranged, as they are allowed to roam freely around the entire forest. Roughly 10,000 tourists visit the forest monthly. It is run, managed, and owned by villagers of Padangtegal, Ubud, Bali. Not only is it a major tourist attraction, but researchers have come from across the world to study social interactions between the monkeys and their corresponding environment. Inside the forest are three Hindu temples, which were constructed approximately around 1350; roughly 650 years ago. As me and my father were walking from a delicious mexican joint called Taco Casa, we stumbled by chance onto the forest. We went from downtown Ubud, to gazing upon a very large forest with monkey statues surrounding it. At the time we decided to keep venturing on, but decided that we would have to come back at a later point in time. We handed our tickets to the man standing at the entrance, he punched them and we were good to go. Walking down the stone pathway the first thing I noticed was the immense amount of monkeys. There was a banana stand a few meters down the path where monkeys hovered hoping to get a treat. As we walked past, weaving our way through throngs of tourists with cameras and monkeys walking here and there the lady behind the banana stand asked if we wished to buy any (to feed the monkeys). We declined but plenty of other people had taken up the offer, handing out bananas to monkeys left and right. We watched as they eagerly bit into them, trying (and eventually succeeding) at getting to the sweet fruit
