Most people are teenagers when they get their first job. A lot of teenagers do not necessarily need a job, but would like some extra cash so they are able to buy whatever they want without having to ask their parents. When most people get their first job they probably do not think much of it. They might think, “This will just be temporary. I will make some money and kill some time. It will not really matter". However that may not be the case, no matter how small or insignificant one thinks a job may be, they all matter and teach us something. I learned from my mother when opportunity knocks, open the door. An opportunity came when my mom's friend offered me a job at a cancer center. Even though I was not looking for a job I said yes. It was a temporary, part time job. I was between semesters in college and unsure what I wanted to major in. Taking this job would give me exposure to the medical field, which I was considering as my field of study. Another reason I decided to take the job was because I could earn …show more content…
I was so busy with the demands of my job that I had no time to remain nervous or timid. I learned how to deal with all types of people in different types of moods. Some were angry and impatient where I learned how to stay calm, some were emotional and in distressed which showed me how to have compassion and taught me empathy. I became an early riser which taught me time management and to be responsible. Having a steady income provided me the means to purchase things I wanted for a long time but could never afford on my own. Treating my parents to a lunch or dinner was gratifying and empowering. Interacting with hundreds of people on a daily basis helped me build my confidence in myself and grow as an individual. With the enormous responsibilities I had and succeeding at fulfilling them, I realized my capabilities and there by my
They start spending that money on a lot of things except for anything educational which is a very alarming situation for them and for their parents as well. Their parents need to know how they are spending that money and how they should be sending that money. Most of the time the only reason why teenagers start working is because they want to save money for their college studies. Studies revealed that teenagers have considered working here as a great learning experience for them but the writer has completely ignored that aspect as well. According to him, most teens working at places like McDonalds is not provoking sense of responsibility instead it is giving them a shortcut to avoid studies and start earning with little or no education at all.
Growing up in a small, middle class town in the midwest left little cultural diversity surrounding me as a young child. Me and all of my friends seemed to be cut from the same material. For the most part, we all had two loving, caring parents, we often times did not struggle for items necessary to live, and we often times were never introduced to people much different than us. It can be quite easy to say the midwest is the worst place to raise an open minded child; that being said, I believe my first two hours in Germany opened my eyes more than anything else I have gone through in my entire life.
I believe in the value of personal growth and learning for yourself. Personal growth is assessing my skills and aiming for my goals in life without the help from others. Similar to Siddhartha, he ventures off on his own to find Nirvana from his own experience because you cannot learn it on your own. I personally grow every summer when my parents send me away to camps or colleges and I must learn values like responsibility, independence, and to ‘find myself’, which is my Nirvana.
I would like to join Year Up because i would like the opportunity to better myself. Right now i feel like my life isn’t headed into the direction that i want it to, i feel like it’s at a dead end just living paycheck to paycheck, and i know there's more to life than that. I would love the chance to expand my mind and a better, more educated person. I would like to obtain more professional and life skills, more than what i currently have. I currently work at Rhode Island hospital where i've been work as a laundry aide for two years, i'm grateful for the opportunity to work for a company like Lifespan, but i know working in laundry isn't going to get me anywhere other than where i am right now.
My previous job involved me being a porter for The Volkswagen Autobarn. Working here really taught me the value of a dollar. It taught me how to really save my money for the necessities and to try and avoid spending it all in one place. Especially because it was money that I worked for. It taught me to appreciate hard work while also setting goals such as my work experience to improve my my finances and goals such as creating connections with the people I worked with, worked for, and customers that I would meet.
The MSN in education is something I have passionate about for a long time now. The MSN from Benedictine University will help me reach my goal as being a more well-rounded, devoted professional nurse. The article,”Teenagers’ Work Can Have Downsides” written by Jerald G. Bachman, discusses many advantages and disadvantages of working as a teenager. An event in my life that has helped shape me as a person would have to be when my family started doing foster care. When I was in 6th grade we got our first set of foster kids. Luckily enough we were able to adopt them. From then on we have had two other sets of kids who either went back to their parents or switched foster homes. Each set of kids brought wonderful new meanings to my life.
Pom pom’s, short skirts, and lipstick. This is probably what first comes to your mind when you hear cheerleader. However, there is a lot more to cheerleading than that. Throughout these past four years Columbia athletics hasn't just taught me my physical strength, but also the values of commitment, hard work, dedication, leadership, and trust. These values have shaped me into the person I am today and I will continue to use these skills to guide me through my future life.
Getting your job will be the best feeling ever to have and it will become an achievement in your life. There are so many perks into having a job, especially starting at a young age. In reality, it is really beneficial to at least have a job. A job that a person like the rest of us can build up skills, any skills that may help. Also, a good start to save money in the future, just in case anything happens when a crisis begins.
As a child we watch our parents and we learn from them. We learn how to cook, how to clean, how to raise children, how to do right from wrong, how to work, how to do things we don't want to, how to be happy, how to have fun, and many more things.
Living in hope, with our beliefs, and with little expectation of others is the way forward. My parents, simple and honest human beings, have high expectations of me, wishing that I too, like them, grew up to be an honorable person. Martin Luther King’s life inspires the determined and I agree that to give up on life or stop is deplorable. Irrespective of the hurdles, to push ahead with all one’s might is the only way to succeed. Living this philosophy, my father, a genuine rags to riches story, altered my life, leading by example and encouraging me to follow the path of righteousness.
When being a supervisor, you have a lot of responsibilities that you need to take on every day with the people who work for you. It is important that the supervisor always oversees the jobs/activities that are being performed and making decisions on what to do. When it comes to everything with being a supervisor, there are ten reasons the supervisor hat fits me just fine. The first one is having good behavior, which means that you need to be approachable in every situation. You want to be positive and make sure that people in your team feel that they can come to you.
In the midst of all their problems they simply just smiled and made the best of their situation. They made me realize just how ungrateful and selfish I really was. When I begged my parents for new clothes or shoes when I had a closet full, they barely had any. When I complained about what we were having for supper, they were lucky if they got any. When I take a sip of clean water, they take a sip of parasites and diseases.
Twelve is remarkably young to start working in this day and age. Around this age, the main thing these kids should worry about is school. Acquiring a job will only cause a lot more stress than these young people need in their lives. The amount of stress for being responsible for the school, social life, and spending time with their family. Having a job at this young age will deprive these kids of having time for themselves.
