Do you have nightmares when you are sleeping then wake up in a cold sweat? A nightmare is a bad dream that often involves some imagined danger or threat to the people who have it (“nightmare”). It causes a strong emotional response from the mind, typically fear, depression and anxiety. Nowadays, scientists come up with two main causes of nightmares and the efficient treatment to let people know more about nightmares and keep a positive attitude. Scientific research shows that nightmares may have two main causes. First, they explain it from a psychological aspect. Frequent and suffering nightmares, along with several other qualities of disturbed dreaming, such as changes in emotional intensity, increased bizarreness, or unusual character interactions, have been associated with the things just as Zadra and Donderi expressed “specific psychological disorders, including depression, schizophrenia, and personality disorder” (273). In Selby, E. A., Ribeiro, J. D., and Joiner, T. r. ’s article, they put forward three methods to cope with the frequent nightmares. Firstly, “put people worries to rest when he put his head down to rest” (126). As much as possible, try to clear one’s head of his annoyances and unpleasant events after the whole day. Focus on the positive events that happened to him during the day. Secondly, “do not catastrophize nightmares” (132). It is normal to have nightmares among people. Dreams do not predict the future. Therefore, if people worry that the bad things he dreamt about will happen, he will only increase his negative mood state. Thirdly, “learn to distinguish an actual from a waking nightmare” (140). Once people realize that he is awake when he was asleep, people can benefit from understanding that he is allowing his negative emotions to express.
