The Island of Okinawa, Some 685 km away from the southwestern tip of Kyushu, is the largest of a string of 70-odd islands and islets of the Ryukyu Islands. Okinawa itself has a subtropical climate boasting plants and flowers all year round. Coral reefs, emerald seas and sunny skies attract sea and sunbathers all year round. Okinawa also abounds in sites of historical interest of Japan.

Okinawa Islands ok Okinawa Island is the largest Islands of Japan. The island has an area of 1,206.96 square kilometers (466.01 sq. mi). It is roughly 640 kilometers (400 mi) south of the rest of Japan, roughly the same distance off the coast of China, and 500 km (300 mi) north of Taiwan. The island hosts the majority of the US troops stationed in Japan. Over the last 70 years, there have been periods of conflict and distrust between the US troops and the local Japanese population. The island’s population is known as one of the longest living people in the world.
