Famous Filipino boxer, Manny Pacquiao, once said, “ I want the people of the Philippines to be happy, even if they have nothing.” Today, the Philippines face various day to day issues that impact the population’s wellbeing. From the immense amount of squatters as residents to the rapid growth of unemployment, it can be recognized as a third world country. In the Philippines, millions of people suffer from poverty. A notable amount of the people living in these provinces spend their days on the streets instead of in a home. Another concern is how pollution affects the people in deadly ways, raising the death rate of the country overall. The death rate is also affected by how many of murder cases that remain unsolved. Air and water pollution has been caused by exhaust from vehicles, fireworks, sedimentation, and industrial waste and overfishing in lakes. Laguna de Bay, the Philippines’ largest lake, is an example of how pollution may affect the lives of Filipinos, considering it supplies the 16 million residents of Metro Manila with a third of their fish. This lake also supports agriculture, industry, and hydropower generation, and is a welcome getaway for rest and recreation. Because so many people rely on this lake to remain up and running for utilization, the pollution of it not only worsens the environment of the lake but affects the people as well. At least half a million people living near the Laguna lake are estimated to be discharging raw sewage into the lake. The carelessness of the people around the lake also causes harm towards issues that lie deeper than the lake. Nutrient pollution is also a major concern since nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus can result in the over-enrichment of a water body, which triggers dense plant growth and the death of animal life from lack of oxygen, making the problem a concern of plants, animals, and
