Comparing this to a cliché high school setting, poverty must be the “popular chick” or the “heartthrob”. Everyone knows what poverty is and what it can do, but no one seems to know what caused it. Indios or the uneducated Filipino people are always degraded and discriminated those days. For example, during this era, there exists the “Encomienda System” wherein Spaniards own the land but they make the Filipinos work in the field. The Spaniards get the earnings and the only thing that the Filipinos get is some of their crops. Another manifestation of poverty during these times is “Bandala System”. The Bandala System is where Filipinos sell their products to the Spaniards at a much lower price than its usual and the Spaniards sell these products at a higher price. The Filipinos, who has no other choice, buy there overpriced products and causes them to have little money left. This period also featured a system “Polo Y Servicio” wherein Filipino men aged 16 up to 60 work in the land owned by the Spaniards without
With textiles from India restricted, it paved the way for Europeans to produce their own goods at competing prices with the Asians and stimulate their own economy. The Chinese, on the other hand, were receiving silver, an essential piece of their economy as it was their sole monetary form for taxes and other processes. In addition to unnecessary goods, the Spanish were experiencing increasing inflation. Tomas Mercado, a Spanish scholar, described the extent of this inflation caused by the lack of the circulation of the coins (Doc 1). The Chinese received so much silver for themselves that it could be used as ballast and the cobblestones previously used were left at the port.
Paint a picture of poverty. What do you see and where does it take place? Is it in a city like New York? Maybe it takes place at the dried, barren lands in the continent of Africa. Now, imagine it a hundred times worse, with no proper housing, limited water and sewage system, and lacking food and other general necessities.
While some said that the programs did not help at all, others were on the contrary. A study that was conducted in 2012 showed that the War on Poverty did in fact have a positive impact on the poverty level. This study examined what happened to the poverty level before and after the interference of the government starting in 1967. According to the study, if the government had not intervened then there would have been a rise in the number of people living in poverty. Since the level of poverty was indeed falling, there had to be some reasons as to why people felt like the programs were not doing their job.
Anti-poverty officials were drawn to the income strategy because it move was motivated by the manifest insufficiency of the economic opportunity act as a response to structural poverty. And each response to poverty they all had the basic philosophies of permissiveness an entitlement and the same aversion and reciprocal responsibility. There were many proposals that showed the poor remain victims of social injustice on were entitled to unconditional large it is a federal government (Davies, 4). The war on poverty was a failure because it did not develop welfare crisis. The rapid growth of unpopular aid to families with dependent children program, the continued any qualities of benefits between states and, the growing incidence of single parenthood in the ghettos were three elements What are the cause of the crisis.

INTRODUCTION We belong in a time where the world goes through constant changes. Life today is so fast-paced and dynamic that we sometimes knowingly ignore what 's happening around us since it may instantly change anyway. ‘Poverty’- a simple word with unlimited connotations. Poverty is a universal issue that has been plaguing our Earth for centuries; thus it is essential that the immensity of the situation is acknowledged by everyone. If looked up, you’ll find the exact definition of poverty being: ’general scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. [1] Poverty is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. [2] Poverty may be defined as either absolute or relative.’
Inefficient policies all around the world and especially in our country are contributing to problems in the society. And the biggest problem which the world faces today is the problem of “Poverty” and “Inequality”. It is hard for one to determine whether poverty causes inequality or is it the other way around because both these problems are interrelated. Poverty is something which is caused due to transferring wealth in to the hands of a specific group and the unjust policies of the government. And inequality is discriminating a person in all spheres of life which gives a rise to sense of deprivation.
Poverty still occurs across the modern world which we live in nowadays. While the majority of people would relate the word poverty with less developed countries the truth is that poverty is to be found everywhere you look. Yet the term, poverty, is brought up to discussion. Because would you consider yourself poor even though you didn’t know the better scenario existed? And isn’t it sometimes enough just to have a bed to sleep in, food to eat and people around who love you?
CALELAO, Kyla Ellen, M. SURVIVING THE CYNICAL EFFECT OF GLOBALIZATION IN THE COUNTRY “We were all humans until, race disconnected us, religion separated us, politics divided us, and wealth classified us.” Despite of the great impact of it in the advancement of our country, globalization has been threatening our lives and the worst thing is that we, Filipinos, are not aware of this threat brought by the phenomenon. The widening of the gap between the rich and poor people, a result of globalization, puts the Philippines deeper in the quicksand of poverty and also causes social injustices among men.
