“A good teacher can inspire hope ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.” (Brad Henry Quote) The basic role of a teacher is to help students gain knowledge, skills, and values. Ultimately, every profession in our country is affected by the profession of teaching. Teachers help to build our nation through the knowledge and opportunities they give to children, who then continue their education in order to pursue the career of their choice. It is an exciting field because teaching children can be like an artist getting ready to create. The teacher is like the artist and the student’s are like the blank canvas and when they both work together, a great creation can be made. The expectations of teachers, the training and education required of teachers and the difficulties, and joys teachers often face are different areas that may affect one’s decision in entering this wonderful and intimidating profession.

Students with disabilities need close attention and understanding. Special education teachers must communicate with many people, including teachers, students, and parents. To become a special education teacher, you need to earn a bachelor’s degree in special education. You have to complete a student teaching internship in a special education classroom. Then you would take your state’s required tests for special education teaching and apply for your teaching license. Finally, you would begin applying to open special education positions. The National Labor Statistics reports that in 2015-2016 there were 20,150 special educators and 137,260 general education teachers employed in Ohio (NLS, 2017). This is a state ratio of 12.8% of all teachers are special education teachers. The districts in the five counties’ mean was tabulated at 13.4% of all teachers are special education teachers. The ratio of special education teachers to paraprofessionals in districts in Ohio was also formulated from this data.
Understanding the history of special education and its impact on individual lives provides educators and families with a positive perspective on student’s academic and social achievement. Special education services were almost non-existent and with the passage of Public Law 94-142 everything changed. As the law continues to evolve, the rules and regulations become more prevalent. Handicapped and disabled students educational careers can now include reading, language arts, math, live skills training, vocational readiness, and various work training programs. Society has significantly become more understanding and aware of people with disabilities since the establishment of Public Law 94-142.
The California Department of Education will help them investigate and may require your school to comply with your IEP(Disability Rights Of Students,). There is no doubt that the development of everything will be challenged, as will the California Department of Education. In 2020, the American Institute of Learning Policy released a report on the shortage of special education teachers in California. According to the analysis of the report, at present, California's special education teachers are in short supply, the qualified rate is declining, and the drain is serious(The Strategies and Enlightenment of California to Alleviate the Shortage of Special Education Teachers,2021). However, the California Department of Education has begun to take positive measures and believes that this problem will be improved in the near future.
A Lot of schools need more teachers’. The world needs teachers. Being a teacher will help students become more successful in their education. That 's why I want to become a teacher so I can help students understand the concepts of learning different material. That 's why it takes time and effort to finish a task from where you start.

The history of Special Education begins with the 18th century. Before that time, persons with disabilities were not taken in consideration, and were often mistaken as being possessed by evil powers, cursed, or simply stupid (Blackhurst 13, 14). With the beginning of the 18th century, and also of the period known as the Enlightenment, ideas about education started to arise. The Enlightenment period influenced Special Education is many ways.
I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily. Teaching can leave a lasting impression in a child’s life and offers a special opportunity to shape the bright young minds of future generations. While many professions can be impactful, I believe the qualities of the person in the career position to be the most influential.
Now, I realize that a student needing special education does not automatically mean that they will need help with everything and have an extremely difficult time learning. Most of the students I observed did not seem any different than the students not in special education. They just needed extra help in certain subjects. They picked up on the material much more quickly than I had thought they would and were able to do more on their own than I had originally thought. Before this class and project, I also did not think about the fact that students with special needs often stay in the general education classroom as well as working in the special education
