The Moment’s in My Life That Made Me Aware of Language
Other than learning to speak and write English when I was a baby through Kindergarten, there isn’t any particular one person or major event in my life that made me more aware of language, there are several. However, my interests in a different form of language started when I started learning Spanish in high school, over the course of 3 different teachers.
Each teacher came with their own accent and different teaching styles. My first teacher, her favorite way to teach us was through singing songs in Spanish. At first it was fun and cool because we didn’t have that many worksheets to do, but after a while it started to get boring because it would be the same songs over and over again. I felt like I wasn’t really learning that much about the language that I wanted to. So when it came time to pick our classes for my sophomore year I chose a different teacher.
I started my sophomore year; my new Spanish teacher was very strict and liked things done a certain way. Whenever we would have a new assignment she would always make us get in front of the whole class and try to get us to have an accent while talking in Spanish. The time I remember most is when she

It showed me that you can learn a language in multiple ways, and it also showed me that it takes a while to learn something new and to become good at it. I work at Rue21, and learning Spanish has helped me to be able to communicate with customers who don’t speak English. I was able to say “hola bienvenido a Rue21 ¿cómo puedo ayudarle?” Which means hi welcome to Rue21 how may I help you? Or when they were leaving, I would say have a nice day. “que tengas un buen día”. It was hard at first because it was confusing learning what each word meant and how to pronounce it right and how to use it in a sentence. But I’m glad I was able to learn
It has been proven that it is much easier to learn a language when you are younger, but practice makes perfect. In order to do well in the class, I had to study frequently to help understand and remember words, which is normal. I think learning Spanish helped me understand the culture. In class, we learned about holidays they celebrated, such as, Cinco De Mayo and the Day of the Dead. This helped me understand what they valued.
I moved to Texas, which also has its own language, when I was 15 years old. I felt as if I was learning a new language. I went into a fast food place right after I had
Throughout the presentation, he kept uttering the same phrase, “Si se Puede! Si se Puede!” which means “You can do it.” Throughout every obstacle he faced, he repeated this phrase it was meant to resonate with the Latino students. Fast forward seven years, he graduated from the university and started his career.
Even though growing up I didn’t visit Dominican Republic as much as I would have liked to when I did it was an experience that opened my eyes deeper into my culture. Learning to read and speak Spanish in “El barrio” alongside of my abuela and other family members it helped me progress because I now had more doors open to me in my future due to my ability to fluently speak both
Prior to sitting in on these classes, I did not know what to expect or what was even going to occur. I grew up in a small white town so we did not have classes like the one I observed. After observing for 15 hours I have realized how important it is that students get the help they need when it comes to learning English. One major lesson that I have learned from my observations that I will take with me for my future encounters is to not let my students abandon their Spanish. It seemed that in every class I observed, the students all expressed their hate for English and their lost Spanish.
When she showed the cop the helper in the store and
I practiced learning and using it from a very young age. As I got older, my parents decided to transfer me to an international school where I started to learn English as my second language. The new school environment transformed and gave me a passion to learn another language, and this was a strong foundation that helped me to make the decision of pursuing a degree in the United States 6 years
In my elementary and middle school, learning to speak and write Spanish was required. Most of my classmates also grew up in Hispanic families. They also spoke English but they would only speak Spanish to the other Hispanics. What made this interesting is that they didn’t think I could speak Spanish, but I could understand everything they were saying. Being able to understood all of their gossip and all of the things they said about everyone else in the class was an advantage I had.
It was in this unique way that my mom figured out how to teach herself the english language, as well as raising me as a bilingual child. Every page that she’d flip would expand both of our vocabularies in ways that changed both of our lives entirely. Our tongues tripped over the new sounds, tentative around the differences between the ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ sounds, a slow but successful hands on learning experience. By the time I went to Preschool, and eventually Kindergarten, I knew enough of both languages to speak, read, and even write a bit in both english and spanish.
Having a second language in your background is so impactful on one’s life, providing them with more skills. This is the 21st century and having this skill helps an individual be
Who are we? What forms one's identity? Language is a important element of culture and culture is known to be crucial definer of one's identity. Language connects people to a certain identity and allows them to communicate their ideas and values to themselves and the world... In other words language is important as it allows people to express their thoughts as well as beliefs.
One of my experiences with failure took place when I was in fourth grade. There were many problems accumulated and I was a child who needed people to see if I did my homework or study for the test, because I couldn’t concentrate and was distracted by anything in the room. My brother also had problems that year, he needed more attention because he didn’t get along with his math teacher and my Mom was always after him with the homework; otherwise he would have failed Math at the end of the year. In fourth grade, the teacher that was assigned to us was one of the strict teachers that were in that school

Why taking a second language can be helpful Learning a second language has many lifelong beneficial other than just understanding the language itself, mainly if learned at a young age. Learning a second language can be done more efficiently as a young kid, and can open up many doors for later in life while being mentally advanced. When it comes to learning a second language, the younger you start the easier you will begin to learn your second language. Younger brains learn much easier than older brains because the brain is designed for language learning to take place between birth and adolescence (the period following the onset of puberty during which a young person develops from a child into an adult).
