The first special technique of the Bulgarian traditional singing is the register. The register is played by a particular mechanism in the body. The registers are chest, mixed and head. The male traditional singing voice is typically with their chest voice register. The female traditional singing voice is normally chest or mixed voice registers.
In traditional Bulgarian singing the advantage is the use of the registers mentioned, but also the head voice. There is an immense difference in the sound of the head voice and the other voice registers. They sound as two very different confined registers.
