Essay About Traditional Singing
The first special technique of the Bulgarian traditional singing is the register. The register is played by a particular mechanism in the body. The registers are chest, mixed and head. The male traditional singing voice is typically with their chest voice register. The female traditional singing voice is normally chest or mixed voice registers.
In traditional Bulgarian singing the advantage is the use of the registers mentioned, but also the head voice. There is an immense difference in the sound of the head voice and the other voice registers. They sound as two very different confined registers. Of course the different traditional singing styles vary in every region of Bulgaria. In some regions the creation of sound with the mixed voice register is a typical technique. The folk singers use their diaphragm constantly while breathing to ensure a rich and deep sound, it is considered to give strength and brightness to the timbre.
Folk singers, usually not matter what pitch they are singing, keep their mouth in the same position: half open with a slight smile. The timbre and articulation proximity of folk singing with speech is due to the similar formation of high and low vowels in the voice. The main specification of the creation of sounds in Bulgarian folk music; which is a significantly different to opera singing, is related to the position of the larynx. The folk singers’ larynx is located mainly in the high position while singing.
