Throughout this essay, I will be discussing the which state when compared to the Texas legislature is most similar and most different. Using the graph that compares Texas with California, Florida, New York, and Ohio. I will be giving my opinion as to why these states differ, and why they are alike. I will also be discussing the legislature education level between these states. Using the chart comparing Texas population, Texas House, and Senate, I will compare the population in Texas education, as well as the education in the House and the Senate. Also, comparing the statistics for the different gender as well as the different races for the Texas population as a whole. While using the chart to compare the overall gender and race to the percentages …show more content…
I believe Ohio is the state that shares the most similarities in education level with Texas legislature. Although it has roughly 10 percent fewer graduate degrees then the Texas legislature, the amount of bachelors degrees and high school diplomas are about the same for the state of Ohio and Texas. In order to compare Texas House to the Texas Senate, the occupations have to be considered because their educational needs will match with the occupation they hold. For example, an attorney can not simply have a high school degree he must have some sort of educational background. Thirty-nine percent of Texas Senates are attorneys of some sort. They must have a bachelor’s or higher to be successful when looking at the graph it matches the statistic that fifty-nine percent of Texas Senate has Graduate degrees and only thirty-seven percent of the Texas house has Graduate degrees. Most of the Texas House representatives are business owners. Although when looking at the overall education level of Texas population you find much higher percentages for lower education level. People want representatives with educational background. When comparing the education level of Texas population to the house and the Senate, other things have to be taken into account, it is the population as a whole, not just the legislature. Only 19 percent of Texas overall population has high school degrees only. Both the Texas House and Senate have zero …show more content…
However, Texas population overall is about fifty percent male and fifty percent female. When talking about the different races in the Texas House and Senate, the majority of them are White. White Americans hold sixty-six percent of the Texas House, and Seventy percent of the Texas Senate. They are followed in line by the Latinos which holds roughly twenty percent of Texas House and twenty-three percent of the Senate. These numbers are not even close considering that the overall population only has forty-three percent whites, and is made up of thirty-nine percent Latino. I believe that if there is too much of a difference in race, education, and gender between the general public and the people they choose to represent them, the legislature could not have the public best interest at heart. How could a White male with a graduate degree who owns his own business possible understand the needs of a Latino woman with only a high school diploma who works as a maid? The majority of the Texas Hous and Senate are White males who have a degree of some sort, and the only view that he could possibly understand is how to help better people with his same stature. This reflected now with debates and issues at hand now, they have good intention trying to make Texas a better state to be apart of but, is ultimately unable to see how the decision they make affect general public as a
Valerie Jimenez Professor Gilligan Government – 2306 25 September 2017 Texas and U.S Constitution There is no doubt that the Texas and United States Constitutions are important to keep democracy. Both constitutions contain similarities as well as some major differences. The first similarity would be the process of separation of powers. Separation of Powers was created by the “framers of the Constitution [who] feared too much centralized power” (PBS) and who knew that “the accumulation of all powers… in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many…may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny” (PBS).
The state has been known to offer low-cost tax abatement and loans, and it has been very strict in its approach to administering these programs. A well-rounded educational background is very important for the success of a country and its economy. Before the Great Recession, the cost of college in Texas increased significantly. After the recession, the state was left with a huge shortage of skilled workers and people with a post-secondary education.
Since 1980, the Republican candidate, running for President, has received a high percentage of the vote in Texas, than he did nationally. However, the thing that has changed between 1996 and now, is that their is a different distribution in the vote for President within Texas. During the time between 1960 and 1992, the Big 6 counties (those counties that consist of the largest cities in Texas) carried the GOP Presidential candidate (Thornburn 168). The only exclusion to this was Johnson in 1964. Now in 1996, they have produced the lowest percentage of the vote for the GOP candidate.
The Senate of Texas shows the 2010-2014 estimates of Texas State Senate District 16 in categories of population, age, education, employment, and election. 2 First, the total population of District 16 is 846,307. 20 % of the population moved into the district in the past twelve months. This fact shows that the area is growing, and it predicts a prosperous population in the future.
Individualistic values in Texas support government activity only “to the extent that it creates opportunity for the individual achievement.” (Texas Political Culture). In other words, Texans are in favor of a limited state government and only encourage government activity when it is needed to create individual opportunities. The practice of an individualistic culture in Texas has created hostile views towards the state and federal government, and discourage their involvement in a number of
The Texas legislative process is governed by the Texas constitution as well as the House of Representative and the Senate. Its primary function is to enact laws to provide for the health, welfare, education, environment, and economic and general well-being of the citizens of Texas. It also establishes public policy through the passage of bills and resolutions and proposes amendments to the state constitution, which are then submitted to the voters for approval or disapproval. When a bill is proposed, it must go through the legislative process before it becomes a law. The legislative process is very long and has many steps.

The history of political parties in Texas is marked by nearly a century of Democratic Party dominance followed by a realignment that shifted the balance of power in favor if the republicans. Political science professor Cal Jilson noted that the dominance of one party in Texas has been a result of the state’s dominant values. Both parties in Texas today reflect more conservative versions of their national counterparts. The other chapter talks about the Interest groups in Texas. Interest groups plays a critical role in all democratic systems of government.

The Constitution of the Republic of Texas was the supreme law of Texas from 1836 to 1845. On March 2, 1836, Texas declared itself an independent republic due to a lack of support from the U.S. in their revolutionary movement. After the Texas voters ratified secession from the Union on February 23, 1861, the Secession Convention reconvened.
The legislative branch naturally reflects the democratic form of government. However, all three branches are considered weak, but compared to the three branches of the Texas state government, the legislative branch is less weak and the most powerful because of the broad authority it has been given. (laits.utexas.edu). According to the (tsha.utexas.edu) “Under the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, the legislature, as representative of the people of Texas, exercises plenary powers, limited only by the Texas and United States constitutions and valid federal laws. The legislature may exercise the state 's inherent police power to promote and safeguard the public safety, health, morals, and welfare; and, by nineteenth century judicial interpretation, is superior to local governments, which are regarded as "creatures of the state.
Abidjan Bright Badih Elarba Texas Politics 1133.010 Fall 2015 Voter ID law in Texas It was in 2011 that the Legislature passed Bill 14 that allowed Texas to have a strict voter ID law for the November election. Many people were opposed to this because it limited many eligible citizens from voting causing a lower voter turnout than what Texas has already had. This is a major problem in Texas because majority of our population consists of immigrants from Mexico and many of them are still fighting for citizenship. Because of this law it is in question, how much power does our state actually have in the regulation of elections?
The U.S. endorse the U.S. constitution in 1789, much of the time has been utilized as a model by rising countries. A constitution is the basic law of a state or nation that outlines the primary structure and functions of government. State constitutions, nonetheless, sometimes appreciate such esteem. Most definitely, the constitution of the state of Texas is more frequently disparaged than applauded in view of its length, indefinite quality, and its obsolete, unworkable arrangements. The political conditions that encompassed the written work of the national constitution varied impressively from those that existed at the times when large portions of the fifty states were composing their constitutions.
The Senate and House of Representatives comprise the two chambers of the United States Congress. While both houses are representative bodies and jointly oversee the executive branch, both must approve all bills before the president, but both chambers have different roles according to the Constitution. The House of Representatives has 435 members apportioned to the house from across the United States. States with larger populations receive more seats within the house.
