Charles Dickens, “A Christmas Carol”, is a classic novels that has been around for many years. During this time many different versions of this story have been reenacted in film. I am thankful that these different movies and musical have been made, because I am more of a visual learner than I am at reading a story. When I read the story I was not very interested and had a hard time staying interested in what I was reading. However watching the musical was very entertaining for me and held my attention from start to finish.The pictorial aspects of the story, of the musical helped me better understand what I had read in the book. The ghost of Jacob Marley came to Scrooge to warn him about the three spirits he would encounter throughout the night. The visual of seeing the size and type of chains on his body, helped me better understand the pain he must be suffering. The handkerchief tied around his head helped me better understand his death, as this was something I was unable to picture while reading the book. When he walked through walls and doors it helped remind me the Marley came back as a ghost not a human, but while reading the book I did not really …show more content…

The image of seeing people selling things like meats on the sidewalk to those walking by was weird for me to see, since it is not seen today. The people of the town were dressed in old fashioned clothes, I know that was the time frame of the story but reading the book did not describe the way they dressed in a lot of detail that was helpful to me imagining it the way I saw it in the musical. People getting around with horse and wagon was interesting to see. I kind of remember reading about that in the book, but seeing it in the movie made more sense and helped me to know that the time in which the story took place was a long time
