Receiving an Accolade from the Arab Reading Challenge
Every individual at some stage of his or her life experiences such life changing events. In this respect I must also detail about a specific incident which eventually changed the course of my life forever. The event that I did experience as the life changing event did not only empower me but allow me to feel the essence of success, which, in turn, did motivate me to establish my own social and academic identity in the course of my life.
In my school days I always desired for fame and recognition academically. I have always been an individual who hankered not only for academic identity but also for social identity. I have been brought up in a family where education has always received its

But eventually I got the chance magically when I was summoned by a relative having high position in the academic world of Saudi Arabia to participate in one of the most prestigious academic events held in the Arab world. It was from him that I learned about the Arab Reading Challenge. What I came to know was that, the Arab Reading Challenge (ARC) is the largest-ever Arab literacy initiative. It is launched by UAE Vice President and Prime Minister of the Ruler of Dubai in order to encourage students to read. ARC is meant for challenging students to read as many books as possible over fifty books in one academic year. The challenge constitutes an Arabic reading competition with participating students from different schools across the Arab world and across other corners of the world though quite few. The competition starts every year in September until the end of March. In the competition, students work through five stages of the competition reading at least ten books and summarising their contents in the challenge passports. After completing the reading and after completing the summarising, the final stage of elimination eventually commences and it is according to the set criteria. The eliminations are done amongst schools, education zones until the finals which are held annually in Dubai in …show more content…
Though I was embraced with the blessings and support of my family and friends, I was still very much anxious. I was a bit nervous because I knew that I was going to take participation in a grand academic event that meant a lot for innumerable individuals like me. After a competitive phase and a academic journey I eventually succeeded in accomplishing my goals and objectives. This accomplishment brought me international fame as I was the one to receive the accolade in the Reading Challenge. It was a magic moment for me. At the end of the course, my art teacher handed me a letter that congratulated me on being accepted into the National Art Honor Society. I felt like I have accomplished something big after reading
I have had numerous accomplishments in the past three years. Some felt better than others due to the differing amount of effort I had put in, but they all felt pleasing nonetheless. However, the accomplishment I am most proud of is passing the grade eight clarinet exam. It proved that the five years I had spent practicing and performing were worth it, as I now had a real and usable qualification. Even though I was quite talented at playing the clarinet, it still required a vast amount of effort to pass my exam.
While I sat there reading it, I not only laughed about how apprehensive I acted the day before, but I realized how bad I wanted this. I started thinking to myself that I was competent. I had the requirements to become part of National Honor Society. Why was I so nervous in the first place? One thing I learned during my high
However, in the classroom I made assumptions about our students, such as believing college was the natural course for all of them after high school, and that is was always a destination, not an option. It was not until later that I realized how my identity as a White, upper-class individual contributed to my epistemologies and
It happened five years ago as I sat in a crowded library study room with my fellow classmates at the University of Sheboygan in Sheboygan, WI. We were studying for our final exams for one of the toughest classes we had ever taken. What is this class you might be asking yourself? The class I am referring to is an Introduction to Psychology. After weeks of hard work and dedication I passed this challenging class with an A. This was one of my proudest achievements.
He gave me a small smile, giving me the courage I needed to get myself to the stage. As I stood in front of the podium I looked over the crowd. Everyone’s eyes were on me. My heart started pounding in my ear, words escaping my mind. All I could do was wonder how I had ended up here.

This event showed me the joy of volunteering and established a love within me that still has not died. These two factors are why I will never forget this event, and why it inspires me to
Personal Narrative Essay Believe it or not, sometimes a gracious action can bring a huge influence on a person. When I read the introduction that instructor Heller wrote, there is a sentence she wrote: “Sometimes the most influential moments in our lives are smaller moments, events that we may not recognize as influential until years after the experience.” For some reason, I related to it strongly. My story is about my high school experience. Also, I will share some significant moments in my life, and how these smaller moments changed my personality.
It’s difficult to pinpoint a specific moment in one’s life in which your life is transformed. We often realize that this moment is so signingagent when looking back on personal experiences and don’t realize it at the time. For me, this moment occurred when I realized that I had taken what I love most for granted. It all started back in 2004 when my family suggested that I get into a sport at a young age.
The Arab World Different people around the world have different standards and personalities. The same thing applies to different cultures in which every culture has its own way in dealing with things. An example of totally two different cultures is the Western culture and the Arab culture. Many differences can be easily recognized between these two different cultures. An author named Edward T. Hall wrote an article that shows how these two cultures behave differently under the same conditions.
My educational journey has been an experience I will remember. I have attended school in three different countries, Antigua, St. Thomas, and New York. A diverse educational experience has allowed me to interact with many different cultures and confront many of the different topics we discussed in class. At that time however, I was not fully aware of the implications of certain situation but after many readings I can now fully understand many of the experiences I encountered in my journey. All the information I have learned in this class however will bring all my experience together where I can make much more sense of it than I could when I was younger.
A sense of accomplishment is invaluable to a person. Not only does a sense of accomplishment build confidence and faith in oneself, but it also allows one to reflect on how wonderful the journey to the accomplishment was, and how every little struggle and triumph was worth it. In the middle of summer, where time seems endless and the stress of the previous school year has been shed by students, I never expected to find out that I scored a five on both of the advanced placement exams I took. Nor did I have one-hundred percent confidence the goals we set as section leaders of the marching band would actually be met. Yet to my surprise, I had the good fortune of accomplishing challenging things in both aspects of my life.
In the article, “The Arab World", anthropologist Edward T. Hall discusses how Arabs have a different concept of space and boundary than westerners for public and private places and how this can help explain certain aspects of how Arabs behave. As a renowned anthropologist who has written prolifically and has conceived several important theories in anthropology, Hall is quite qualified to write on the topic of cultural differences and his propositions might be considered extremely credible. Despite possessing such qualifications and writing a well-organized and logical essay, Hall’s arguments in the article are quite lacking because of a biased tone, a lack of evidence, an overreliance on ethos and the use of some logical fallacies. The article basically tries to ascertain how and why Arabs behave differently than people from the west based on “proxemics research”.
There are many incidents one met in life that change the whole concept of living. Similarly I had an incident which not only change my vision towards life but also to the words you speak and how much they hurt someone enough that you then regret of saying them. It was a very dull morning for me.
