Many schools throughout the country have made the decision to discontinue homework for effective reasons. Although some argue that homework creates time management and study skills, the stress that comes with homework overruled this. Assigning homework to students is destructive because test scores lower, there is no free time to do new things, and it is stressful. Assigning homework to kids and teens makes their test scores weaken. Recently, a Duke University professor, named Harris Cooper conducted a study about homework.
New York times stated, “technology is the cone of distraction in class”. Students will think that it is ok to not pay attention if other students aren 't paying attention. Only a few students not paying attention can lead to most of the class being distracted. Students would lose out on learning and be distracted. The result is lower grades because they were not paying attention and they learned nothing.
Many people believe that smartphones and tablets, with internet connectivity and text messaging services, can merely be a source of distraction. Although that may not be true. Capella University explains the strengths of technology in the classroom “5 Reasons to Incorporate Technology into Your Classroom”. Countering, article “Technology in the Classroom: Don’t Believe the Hype” by Tim Walker couldn’t be more adamant about how technology is terrible for the classroom. Students argumentally have more tools and opportunities when technology is allowed in the classroom.
The second argument is led to a lack of social skills. Which is mean tablet devices led to the spacing between people. where they can not face each other by face to face to communicate. Thirdly, laziness in studying that making student lazy. For example, calculations need to run the mind, but the students are turning to the device or the so-called calculator.
Underprivileged students have no access to resources like reading materials, lack of uniforms, lack of enough food and this may lead to uncompleted homework or assignments. The problem facing educators is helping students to achieve optimal learning that is the conceptual understanding and ability to apply the knowledge to learning. Teachers are not using teaching techniques that match different kids’ modes of learning. With negative attitudes from the teachers, this leads to poor quality teaching. There are many solutions to curbing the negative attitude towards students like incorporating technology in curriculum to increase students’ motivation to learn and improve their grades and talents.
Then when it goes down, their future will be affected because of this. Instead of studying for exams, they spend their time reading electronic books which are not even related to the topic. Parents’ guidance is the most important thing to overcome it. Furthermore, students also tend to neglect their studies by focus on applications and games in computer. It is not a big problem if students can differentiate between time for study and playing but the addiction of computer lead them to focus more on unimportant things. Poor performances at school are caused by spending too much time in front of computer (Kartha, 2010). This causes a lot of major problems in their academic performance such as less attention in class and get low grade in their examination.
My first reason is that online class prevents students to interact face to face with other students. It is harder to get to meet our classmates in a class because we do not know who they are. Secondly, online class does not allow students to begin a friendship. Many times we begin a friendship due to something that bring us together such as a class. Finally, online class cannot enjoy learning directly from the instructor.
If a student is focused on texting, he is unable to absorb the information being demonstrated. Whether they are taking selfies or texting in class, mobile phone can be very detrimental to a student’s ability to pay attention in the lecture class. It can be very tempting that students check their instagram or snapchat in class instead of listening a lecturer. Apart from that, usage of mobile phone in lecture class could additionally interrupt a meeting or class if proper rules are not followed. The phone ringing throughout a class or meeting could distract the attendees and waste the valuable time.
Most of the mathematic games in the market is to bring up the mathematical ability but not to improve the knowledge of mathematic itself, so the improvement of the school result is not directly. Hence it is hard for schools to adopt. It is hard to change the concept of playing games is bad for regularly study. People think that achievements are reached by hard work rather than recreation. So that the development and the study in mathematical computer games are blocked.
