Agatha Christie – And Then There Were None Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” is based off a poem, and the book tells a story about ten people, all convicted of a crime, receiving letters to come to a remote island to enjoy a nice week away. What they don’t know, is that it’s a trap, and one of the ten is a killer. According to the poem, ten little boys are all killed in very specific ways, until none of them are left. As each of them begin to die, they realize they are all being killed in the ways the poem describes in order. They also come to the horrible realization that the killer is one of them. As the story goes on, they are each taught a valuable lesson, as are those reading the story. There are a lot of moral lessons …show more content…
He deceived everyone on the island into thinking he was on their side, using his knowledge of being a court justice to try and help decipher who the killer was. This is another example of where this story lacks morality. He deceived them and lied to them, making them think he was the least to suspect. He even faked his own death in front of the others that were still alive so he would be ruled out completely. And whenever he was suspected, he would turn it around on someone else, trying to cover his tracks. He even did this at the end of the story. He wanted to deceive everyone, making them think that what happened to those ten people on the island was a mystery. After the last person had died, he took a gun, with a napkin around his hand, so there wouldn’t be any fingerprints, and he took his own life. He took so many lives, only for him to take his own. What he did throughout the story was immoral to the highest extent. In the Bible, it also talks about deception and how “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord...” (Proverbs 12:22) Injustice like this happens in our world daily, especially if they get away with it. But there is justice, because nothing gets past God. “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out” (Proverbs 10:9). He tells us in His Word that vengeance is His, that He will make right what has been wronged. So,
The overall theme of the poem is sacrifice, more specifically, for the people that you love. Throughout the poem color and personification are used to paint a picture in the reader's head. “Fog hanging like old Coats between the trees.” (46) This description is used to create a monochromatic, gloomy, and dismal environment where the poem takes
He was naive and unprepared, and ran away from his problems without really thinking through what he was doing to himself, and to the people who loved him.
In Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None there are at least two of the twenty rules from “Twenty Rules for Writing Detective Stories” by Van Dine used. These two rules being “The culprit must turn out to be a person who has played a more or less prominent part in the story — that is, a person with whom the reader is familiar and in whom he takes an interest” (Van Dine) and “No willful tricks or deceptions may be placed on the reader other than those played legitimately by the criminal on the detective himself” (Van Dine) In And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie One of the many rules from “Twenty Rules for Writing Detective Stories” by Van Dine shown is “The culprit must turn out to be a person who has played a more or less prominent part in the story. . .” (Van Dine).
In the mystery novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, the author utilizes the poem “Ten Little Indians” as foreshadowing. The poem entails the covert plan that Justice Wargrave used to malevolently murder the people on the island. The poem is used as foreshadowing, for it is the guideline for the murders and shows how each murder will be executed. This makes it easy to follow along and see how the next person will be killed.
The demonstration of the narrator's imagination unconsciously leads his own thoughts to grow into a chaotic mess that ultimately ends in a death. By murdering, it’s his own way of finding peace. He is portrayed as being a sadist, sick man with an unnatural obsession for
Individuals can make their own interpretation of the themes of the short story, but without the grotesque violence and psychopathic nature of the characters, a theme would never surface. The purpose of the violent scenes and nature of the story is to provide a theme for the audience that a good man is not just hard to find but impossible to find because everyone is an imperfect human by human

This quote says that lying happens frequently; no one can resist it. It also says lying is deadly, which is also shown in the Bible within the story of Adam and Eve, when the serpent lies to Eve, convincing her to consume the sacred fruit. In modern society, lying is a common practice. A person may lie protect themselves, or to gain something wanted. This may be due to religious diversity or the decay of respect in society.
Towards the end of the book, a quote shows that the man who actually kills the people on the island is choosing to kill them to serve justice whether they are
“Thunderous action and nail-biting suspense” ~ Peter Travers The similarity between the novel, And Then There Were None, and an episode of Scooby Doo, Where Are You?, is the fact that they leave their audience and readers one the edge of their seats with suspense. He committed a relatively minor infringement of the law in trying to help his starving family, and paid the same price as one accused of a major crime. (B) This situation makes one question the fairness of the law as well as the very structure of society at the time. His life later unexpectedly ties in with the character Fantine. She is easily one of the most tragic figures of the film and a victim of circumstance. “I dreamed a dream in time gone by... when hope was high, and life worth living...”
