Another tool that may use to short down the nutritional gap is better utilization of range lands. Currently, about 60% cultivated area is consisted on range lands. About 60% nutritional requirements of sheep and goat are mainly met through range grazing. In Baluchistan 90% nutritional requirements are fulfilled by range grazing (Zaffaruddin, 1977).

Rangelands are not resourcefully utilized by our livestock sector due to poor management, rainfall, soil fertility and presence of some toxic plant species. It is the grave need of the time that these grazing ranges should be developed to fulfill the nutritional needs of the ever growing population of livestock.

At present, simple animal feed formulae is contributing less than 1% of the required protein and energy in the animals.

Hay and silage are regular feed solutions; they gain importance in the fodder lean periods. But special purpose feed is absent in the industry. By using animal compound feed, farmers get high productivity, less tendency towards diseases.

For cost effective dairy in Pakistan, it is the grave need of the time to establish animal feed industry. It is a golden chance for investments in animal feed industry. Private sector should play their role in the establishment and growth of animal feed industry.

On the other hand, state should provide technical assistance and financial assistance to the investors of animal feed industry. This should be done with missionary spirit as there is no choice for us. Otherwise we’ll not be able to practice cost effective dairy.

The prosperity of this industry has great likelihood towards rapid growth, as feeding to ruminants cost 65-70% of the total cost of production. By this way quality and balanced feed will be available to the farmers to get high production of meat or milk. It is already mentioned above that even animals with good gene will perform poorly due to imbalance
