People still support animal testing even through there are other better ways to test cosmetics and drugs that don’t hurt any living being. Animal testing is unethical to the animals and isn’t as effective as other materials we have access to. Animal testing brings millions of animals a world of pain. It’s cruel and unethical to sentence millions of living and breathing animals to a life of torture and pain. And according to a Listland article, animals used for animal testing aren’t even protected by the animal welfare act, a act that protects research animals from harm.
Even with all of the outcry, there is a large group of people that see animal experimentation as a necessary evil. Many see it as “ total elimination of animal testing will significantly set back the development of essential medical devices, medicines, and treatment” (Hajar 7). Animal testing is a necessary evil that has been extremely beneficial to humans and is crucial to the advancement of medicine in the
An estimate of 150 million animals are harmed and killed from experiments and testing. Scientists infect animals, even baby animals with human diseases. Some animals die hours after their first test. Others die while the test is still going on. If we used plants such as some overpopulated flowers, or grass we could help out the test subject animals.
About 1.4 million animals die each year because of animal testing. Science researches believe that products which have been tested on animals will make humans’ life better. However, the main concern on this issue is that animals are suffering from unnecessary pain. Animals are mostly exposed to radiation, forced to inhale poisonous gases and injected with harmful substances prior to the experiment. Thus, animal testing should be banned because it is cruel, the result is unreliable and expensive.
First, each year more than 100 million animals are killed in U.S laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Before their deaths, some are forced to inhale toxic fumes, others are immobilized in restraint devices for hours. Some have holes drilled into their skulls and others have their skin burned off or their spinal cords crushed .
Animal testing has abused thousands and thousands of animals. From shattering the hearts of millions of animal lovers, making beagles inhale poison, locking animals in small cages and horrifying the poor innocent things. Here’s the evidence to support that animal testing must stop soon. Heartless scientists put thousands of adorable animals through trauma and pain just for medicines, drugs and much more. Animals lives are just as important and valuable as humans.
Animal testing is known as the experimental use of animals for scientific, cosmetic and medical research that seek to control the variables that affect the behavior or biological system under study. It is estimated that around 50 to 100 million of animals are used for testing. Most animal testing is paid through funding about 40% of the funds received are provided to animal testing in the name of research. Of these research 45% is used to identify medical studies, 30% to identify psychological research and 25% for cosmetic and other researchers. “The treatment and testing of animals is a widely controversial subject that many believe isn’t necessary.
Over hundred million animals die from testing and animals die more from testing than hunting. This also led to the sixth mass extinction in the world. Over seventeen thousand in to a hundred thousand animals are dying and we are the ones causing it. About a hundred million animals die from tests and some scientists run the same test everyday and if the tests are deadly they could be killing animals quicker. About ninety percent of animals are in laboratories living in terrible conditions.
The lives saved may outweigh the lives lost but it does not mean we can overlook the pain and suffering caused to these animals to get to the treatments and vaccines. People who feel that they can’t allow animal testing for any reason can choose to refuse treatments that have been created through animal tests. However, this means refusing almost all treatments that have been created. Technology is advancing every day and maybe one day, hopefully soon, animals will be replaced by machines and no longer need to suffer. Animal testing may not always be the most sound or successful way to find the answers but right now there is sometimes no other option.
Also vaccines for animals would not be around if we could not test on animals. For example, author Siobhan O’Neill says that, “They may have helped save millions of lives, and for those of us who need to take medicines, we have little control over whether those medicines are tested on animals.” (O’Neill) This says that we need medicines to save people from sickness. Also most of these medicines were tested on animals. If a human gets a disease we need medicines to heal us. A lot of medicines were tested on animals before human usage.
