Living life is difficult weather it is with society or with our own state of mind. In all honesty, living, can feel more like struggling. We live in a world where so many go around with emotional disorders, such as depression. I am a person that struggles with depression. I believe that everyone should truly know what depression is, how it can make people feel, and what depression could possibly cause. People should understand that not every depressed person wants to be helped. Depression is a serious condition that affects so many people. Doctors use these treatments this because antidepressants, such as an SSRI, “affect the way that the brain uses the neurotransmitter serotonin. Their effect is intended to relieve the symptoms of depression.” (Madeline Vann). Certain antidepressants can cause patients to endure emotional blunting, which is an overall numbness is caused by antidepressants. It used to “written off as a symptom of hard-to-treat depression” (Madeline Vann). I have experienced numbness, from antidepressants, in the past. Personally, sometimes it is nice. It is especially common among those that are between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four. “A major cause of suicide is mental illness, very commonly depression” (UCSC). It is difficult knowing that someone that is depressed and is thinking or has attempted suicide. Saying that suicide is a personal choice, could possibly make it easier for those around you.
