Abstract The presence of acid rain is hard to recognize, so its effects are also difficult to distinguish. In this study, an artificial acid rain was created to know its effects on the aquatic plant using two different kinds of water, rainwater and distilled water. There were six (6) containers used, the 3 having rainwater w/ drops of AAR (Artificial acid rain) and 20 duckweeds while the other 3 having distilled water w/ drops of AAR and 20 duckweeds. The experimental setups were observed for 3-5 days. Every day, the numbers of leaves of the duckweed were counted, which determined if the plant was still alive. The results showed that more plants died in the rainwater with more drops of AAR than the distilled water.

To know the effect of artificial acid rain into aquatic plant
3. To differentiate the effects of artificial acid rain on aquatic plant, according to the kind of water used
Scope and Delimitations This study will mainly focus on the effect on the quality of water on aquatic plant during acid rain. It does not include any data about other aquatic organisms/animals/plants except for the duckweed. This study will be conducted beside the Pasig River for the collection of the plant. It is advised that the person who will conduct the experiment should use proper sanitary equipments like gloves and mask.
Significance of the Study According to a study the worsening air pollution from economic expansion is causing a higher acidity in rainwater in cities across Asia, including the Philippines(Julsawad, 2013).This study aims to determine the effects of the quality of water on aquatic plant during acid rain.It can help to know how an aquatic plant is being affected by acid rain (using a substitute acid rain by adding vinegar to the water) on different types of water. This will also help to determine if there is a high acidity on the rainwater that will be used in the experiment by using the pH test
The last test was called the Acidity test. The Acidity test gives us the alkalinity and acid of a stream. On the Ph scale it goes from 0 to 14. A stream with a great abundance of life will probably have a reading of 7 on the scale( which is near neutral). Here are the results from some of the tests.
This optimizes the sperm survival thus increasing chances of conception. It the ph is too acidic the sperm wont survive which will decrease the chances of
Freshwater is also looked at as floodplain management is observed. The patterns of environmental quality are also examined. My hypothesis is that pH levels and drainage account for the significant differences in vegetation between the areas. This is because both drainage and pH levels play a role in what type of soil is available. The pH level determines the types of plants that grow and the drainage effects the type of soil present, which influences the
phosphates and nitrates ) - which is when fertilizers < such as those on farms > can seep through the soil or even run down the soil - called runoff - into the creek causing the water to have more nutrients than it should. ) Depending on how much pollution there is depends on how much algae there is ( the more eutrophication -there is the more nutrients in the water- results in how much algae there will be.) We were also testing on the pH scale ( which measures the acidity or alkalinity of water ) goes from 0 - 14 where 6 - 0 is higher acidity and 8 - 14 is higher alkalinity ( alkalinity is what neutralizes/destroys acid. ) 7 on the pH scale is neutral and that is the ideal water for the ecosystem. The pollution that we were testing for is where the acid came from to begin with.
Watering The pH of each Celosia plant was taken using the pH meter and recorded. Each Celosia plant was sprayed with 10 sprays with the corresponding solution each day.
We accept our hypothesis of the germinated seeds in the dark and the dormant seeds in the dark having a higher rate of cellular respiration then germinated seeds in the light and the dormant seeds in the light. The germinated seeds in the dark had 0mL of change in oxygen levels while the germinated seeds in the light had -.05mL of change in their oxygen levels. The germinated seeds in the dark had a .05mL more for their change in oxygen then the germinated seeds in the light, therefore the germinated seeds in the dark had a higher rate of cellular respiration then the germinated seeds in the light. The dormant seeds in the dark had 0mL of change in their oxygen levels and the dormant seeds in the light had -.16mL of change in their oxygen levels. The dormant seeds in the dark had a .16mL greater change in their
While CO2 is produced, the amount of CO2 produced is different depending on the organisms, in this case crayfish. To test the changes in pH, NaOH is used to neutralize the carbonic acid produced by the crayfish, by which the
Farmers need to know pH levels, phosphorus levels, and nitrogen levels in order to grow plants most efficiently. This experiment shows them how dirt can be created through composting, leading to better plants. Government can use this experiment to create a new recycling system: a composting system. This will decrease landfills, and increase land for civilization to prosper. Most everyday people should use this experiment to help improve their gardens, and reduce trash they make.
I organized four different tests; pH paper, alkalinity tests, the number of rocks neutralizing acid, and the number of rocks that don’t neutralize acid. The average for pH paper was seven. The pH is the numeric scale used to specify the acidity or alkalinity of an aqueous solution. The pH scale measures acidity and alkalinity. the pH scale goes from zero, which is an acid reading, to fourteen, which is an alkaline reading.
Using Daphnia to Detect Water Safety Due Date: Monday, the 31th of October, 2017 INTRODUCTION Question: Can Daphnia be used to detect water pollution? How does the water type (source) affect the number of Daphnia and the accuracy and efficiency of testing water safety?
Intro: Water pollution has caused so many problems to our waterways that no one really knows how to help. Water pollution caused; dead zones, oil spills, garbage floating around, and unsafe drinking water. People disagree about water pollution because, people have found ways to improve and help out the problem that water pollution has caused around the world. Others believe that that water pollution has created situations and are in the process of figuring out solutions. Marine life habitats are getting destroyed, marine life is declining everyday, how and where the garbage is getting into the oceans, and the drinking water is becoming seriously unsafe to drink.
Introduction: In this task I will be researching the effect that acid rain has on the rate of plant growth. Acid rain is any type of precipitation with a high pH, with high levels of nitric acids. The reason why I had chosen this topic was because acid rain seems to have a great effect on the effect of plant growth, and plants play a very important role in our ecosystem. Acid rain is a major problem in our environment when we are not able to neutralize the acidity.
Ever since the industrial revolution commenced, around one third of the carbon dioxide released by human interference has been absorbed by the ocean, which is one of the reasons of the drastic change in climate as well. Without the ocean absorbing carbon dioxide, the carbon dioxide n the atmosphere would be drastically higher, with possibly increasing the levels of climate change. The point of the research is to see how will the pH affect the organisms in the marine ecosystem and does carbonation affect an organism’s mass and form. Many organisms that are part of the marine food chain are going to be affected by ocean acidification due the levels of acidity deteriorating the calcium carbonate within the animal. It turns out
Introduction Buffer is a solution that resists a change in pH when bases or acid are added. Solutions that are acidic contain high concentrations of hydrogen ions (H+) and have pH values less than seven. Buffer usually consist of a weak acid, and its conjugate base or a weak base and its conjugate acid. The function of buffer is to resist the changes in hydrogen ion concentration as a result of internal and environmental factor. This buffer experiment is important so that we relies the important of buffer in our life.
Some people call it acid deposition because they say it is a more precise name due to the fact that acid rain isn’t only rain, it can fall as rain, snow, sleet, hail and anything else. Acid rain has been formed because as we release harmful gases into the atmosphere, we are lowering the pH of precipitation, creating acid rain. Acid rain can kill small organisms such as trees and fish which destroys ecosystems. Although acid rain is not known to affect humans immensely, it can however, cause health issues usually lung
