One common way to get things done, to achieve and to motivate yourself is to be kind of hard on yourself.
To set very high standards for yourself that you want to stick to every time.
Now, this way of going about things can indeed help you to accomplish big things in your life and to get things done every week.
But it comes at a price.
Three negative things about taking this position towards yourself are:
You tear your self-esteem down. As you achieve things you tend to tear down your own self-esteem at the same time. So you feel less and less like you deserve success. And frustration and being angry can become more and more common as you fail to reach those very high standards.
You suck the fun and excitement out of things. A hard or harsh attitude towards yourself has a tendency to make things that used to be fun and exciting less and less so. This attitude does instead over time turn those things into just work that you may start to dread because you fear failure or not meeting your high standards.

As your self-esteem goes down you’ll feel less motivated to tackle the tasks and projects in your life. As the fun and excitement goes out of many of the things you do procrastination tends to become more and more common. Plus, the work you put in becomes less energetic and focused and so the results aren’t that good anymore either.
I used to take the harder and harsher path. It did help in some ways. But it wasn’t worth it.
So what can you do if you feel that you are maybe too hard on yourself or you beat yourself up quite often?
Here are 4 tips that helped me to become kinder towards myself, to get more of the most important things done and to feel better about myself and my life.
1. Remind yourself of the negative effects of this attitude.
To just remind yourself of how damaging being hard on yourself has been is in my experience a very effective way to replace the old habit with going easier on

If we are too prideful, our judgement can get clouded and bad decisions will be made. Yet, if we use that pride to push ourselves, we can achieve
Close your eyes and imagine a time in your life that was unbearably painful. Feel the pain in you heart, clench your fists with anger and let out a sigh of relief that it is in the past. Now imagine being put back in that awful time; Reliving through the emotional struggles and you have no control of it. Luckily, time travel is impossible, but there is a lot curiosity that comes along with this concept. Throughout the book Kindred, the main character Dana experiences time travel and finds herself back in the time period where she was a slave.
The long-term behavioral goal that I wish to focus on for this assignment is to do physical exercise five-days a week. Regular physical exercise would help me maintain a healthy weight, reduce my risk of heart attack and stroke, improve my mood and well-being, and is an important factor for a long and healthy life. The first technique that I practiced was time management. I have a busy schedule which involves a constant balance of attending classes, doing homework, going to work, doing church callings, and participating in extracurricular activities.
Have your parents ever made you buy something you wanted with your own money? I know my parents have. I remembered last year I really wanted to get a new Lacrosse helmet. My dad said if I wanted to get the helmet, I would need to buy it with my own money. So my dad and I made a deal.
A wise man named Samuel Butler once said ,``The truest characters of ignorance are vanity and pride and arrogance. Does having too much pride trap or serve us? Some believe that having a healthy self-worth means taking pride in the achievements we make. But if value is linked to our self-image or accomplishments then it is built on a tenuous foundation. Pride is a characteristic proven to prevent us from acknowledging our vulnerabilities as a human.
In a world where lives are born and taken every second, I think back to my childhood and my earliest memory is my parents divorce, but there 's so much more to me than just that. Who I am and how I got here today is a collaboration of many more memories. My parents divorce, my siblings, friendships I’ve made and lost, achievements and failures, and my future goals and aspirations. Ultimately, all of this makes, and has made, me. It is a collection of influences, experiences, and memories that make up all of us, as individuals.
However, it's giving the opposite effect. It makes me feel as if I’m not trying, which I am. It makes me feel as if I must rush and figure it out and I have to be stuck in a job I might end up not liking. I feel as if I need to live up to everyone expectations of me. I was always the good and respionble one in my class and school which lead to people thinking highly of me.
Mindset is a scientific proof that shows both the potential of the brain to grow and change. It is divided into two categories: growth mindset and fixed mindset. Each people have different responds to challenges. There are people who can still stand and fight despite all of the failures. Likewise, there are people who are less resilient and tend to give up easily.
My Self-Concept My self-concept includes a number of different adjectives and roles, these include both good and bad things. The adjectives I use to describe myself are as follows: kind, loyal, selfish, hard working, apathetic, practical, honest, occasionally rude, and procrastinator. As for the roles that I fill, I am a son, a brother, a friend, a student, the oldest son, and a teacher. Self-concept is a product of many things, it is not just simply what a person is.
Self expression is a term many people use. The meaning of it is how you show your true self around people expressing thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Many of it can be seen through art, writing, music, and dance. People show themselves with many different expressions. It can be any type of art and even writing.
Evolve into Having Self-Awareness Being self-aware simply means that you have a keen understanding of your own personality. That includes your positive and negative traits, your thoughts and beliefs, your feelings, and your inspiration. It would be easier for you to understand others when you are self-aware. You will also be able to tell how they see you in return. Most people believe that they have a good sense of self-awareness, but it would be best to check at a comparative scale to see where you fall on it in contrast with others.
As Martin Luther said, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run walk, if you can’t walk crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” 6) Hold yourself accountable Develop a checklist of what you need to do on a daily basis to achieve your goals. Set some time at the end of every day to evaluate your performance and progress in respect to your daily action points. It is the small things that we do every day that make or break us.
I spend a significant amount of time just thinking about myself as I go throughout my day. I constantly question myself: why am I the way that I am, what could I have done better here, what is my place in the world, etc. In the context of this paper, I have come to a conclusion. In the past, I was a leader. Now, I realized I have failed.
Most people want to improve themselves in some way, whether it is to lose weight or give up smoking or increase their confidence. Self-improvement is something that we carry out over a life time, but it is a task that can require a lot of motivation. Keeping your motivation levels up and steady can be a job in itself.
