Becoming a successful pharmacist has long been a goal that I strive to achieve. It is a career that provides the capability to improve patient lives directly. Pharmacists are the professionals who are closer to patients than doctors, and they act as the bridge between the two. Not only is their role important, it is a career where I can help the community with my skill and knowledge. The sense of accomplishment from helping and improving patient lives is the most precious success as a healthcare professional.

I was also interested in becoming a pharmaceutical researcher who could improve the health of the community by developing more effective medications. Thus, to decide the career I am best suited to, I joined a research team at UCI and started to work at a pharmacy shortly after that. After experiencing both positions, I realized that I enjoy the ability to interact with patients, help them directly and communicate with them face-to-face, more than spending time on research using instruments. Most of them barely speak English and have problems communicating with the pharmacist. As a Chinese who learned English as a second language, I understand their struggle, inconvenience and fear of seeking help and answers to their concerns. Hence, I always do my best to translate the pharmacist's directions on administration and the solutions to the patients' concerns. I love seeing them with confidence and smiles when they understand the directions and when their concerns were resolved. Is this not the most precious reward one can
