While the true origins of chili are somewhat debated, who made it popular is not. Sometime after the Civil war between 1860 and 1880, chili began being sold by a group of women named “The Chili Queens”. The chili was sold with tamales and for only a dime. The first time Chili is ever mentioned in print is 1882 in Gould’s Guide to San Antonio, where he mentions that chili con carne was available all around the Military Plaza in San Antonio. There is evidence that chili con carne existed and thrived in Texas long before its first time mentioned in print, but because of interstate rail roads that began to connect San Antonio to the rest of the United States in the 1880’s, the 1880’s might have been the first time that chili con carne was spread farther than just through cattle trails in
On December 5, 2012, Daisy Luther, a journalist from Northern California wrote a blog entry on the conspiracy surrounding “certified organic” labels that is claimed by some companies and retailers. She brings up the question of whether these labels being stamped on food can really be verified or are they just a way to empty out the wallets of consumers. In the website The Organic Pepper, the blogger generally gives advice for different problems people encounter on a daily basis. Through her blog entries varying from ways to stay healthy to frugal living, Luther states her opinion of governmental interference on our food supply by citing sources from articles from Natural News and Time Magazine. She first starts out by arguing about how the

If the experiment was completed again, more higher concentrations could be applied to the seeds to see if the data is further supported. Either way the more trials the better and more accurate results, this applies to any experiment. Practical applications of the principles of this investigation may be using the correct concentration for a specific plant or seed. This lab shows that it is necessary to follow the directions and specifications when using the fertilizer miracle
Growing up in a Mexican household, the food we ate always had a spice to it. Whether the spice was on the side or already prepared in the food, my food always had a spice to it. My grandma’s favorite signature spice was her Pico De Gallo. Pico de Gallo also called salsa Fresca, is made from chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, fresh Serrano’s (jalapeños or habaneros are used as alternatives), salt, and key lime juice. At first I did not like Pico de Gallo because I couldn’t bear how spicy it was.
These different types of soils either astounds or have no effect to a colonies economic success. In the south the soil was very rich and led to the growth of the plantation systems. The plantation system allowed the south to produce large amounts of cash crops. The south produced crops such as tobacco, rice and indigo.
They consisted of the significant places such as Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Its geography, including ground and weather conditions, was suitable for cultivation and social settlement, “Favorable climate and soil for agriculture [and] wide rivers made cities unnecessary” (Gran, pg.20). Because of the wealthy and beneficial lands and colonists’ agricultural skills, the Southern Colonies’ incomes and revenues came from exporting their agricultural products. They began to cultivate and build West Indian tobacco farms, and then they tried to cultivate other crops, such as sugar, molasses, and rums, for transporting to Europe.

The rain and sunshine was ideal. This combined with mostly plains (a few hills) and the rich soil (which was scraped down from New England) made the land very fertile. They might not be the exact recipes that the Spaniards, Native Americans and Mexicans used, but they have been remodeled and improved to be created and enhanced as the years go by. This also goes to American food but now that many new cultures have been presented in the United States there is going to be new food mixtures that may contain half the taste of one certain region to the other. Which means that there might be more food that begins to get spicy around places such as Arizona, California, Utah and New
Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether the amount of topsoil would influence the growth of radish plants. It was hypothesized that if the amount of topsoil increased by 50% would increase because topsoil contains the essential nutrients which are required for proper plant growth. The principle findings indicated that a medium amount of topsoil is ideal for plant growth as the radish plant potted in 50 ml of topsoil experienced the most growth in comparison to the radish plants potted either in 25 ml or 200 ml of topsoil. Introduction: A healthy layer of topsoil comprises of a mixture of clay, sand, silt, and humus that supply the plants with vital nutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other necessary
For me, a true Mexican Taco consists of meat, corn tortillas, and condiments like onions, lime, cilantro, maybe chiles, and either a special green or red sauce (salsa). Now, you may ask, how did this famous dish came to be about? Well that’s where it becomes interesting; tacos were made as a way to make money in Mexico which lead to the spread of this cuisine from Latin American to the United States and caused a modification in the cuisine in order to fulfill other cultures in their preferences. For instance, I’ve visited Guerrero, Mexico twice; one time alone and the second time with my sister and my cousins. The first night I got to Mexico it was dark, and the only “stores” open at 8pm or 9pm were “Taquerias” or Mexican restaurants.
