Birdwatching tourism is a niche of the nature-based tourism market and the number of tourists participating in birdwatching tourism has been increasing rapidly in the recent decades. Birdwatchers has been regarded as the wealthiest nature-based tourists, they are willing to pay high travel costs to participate into the birdwatching activities. Their visits to the birdwatching destinations could generate a considerable amount of tourism revenue that not only increase tourism income to the countries, but also significantly provide financial support for those protected areas endowed with high species diversity and endemism. Birdwatching activities has been rapidly developed in the greater China region in the past 20 years. Increasing number of birdwatchers has been noted by recent studies and triggers the need of further research to understand the environmental behaviour and attitude of the Chinese birdwatchers. Formulating better visitor management approaches and strategies are essential to ensure the conservation of the bird community and its habitat.
