Madison Morris Research Report Research Report Introduction Do you every find yourself using more paint then you expected; leading you to spending more money? Sometimes people buy cheaper paints to save money, but end up buying more. This leaves the question "Is cheaper paint really cheaper?" For my project I am looking into the water content in different paints to see if it would cost more or less to buy cheap paints. I will use a centrifuge to separate the water from the paint to check the percentage of water in cheap paint versus expensive paints. Centrifuges What is a centrifuge? That’s a very important question for my project. The centrifuge is used to separate fluids, liquids, and gases based on their densities. A common comparison…show more content…
For example, if you paint metal it will have a less chance of rusting, but if the paint chips then it starts rusting again. Exterior paint also protects against ultra violet radiation which we can't even see with the human eye. It also protects against atmospheric pollutants such as car fuels or the pollutants that come from industrial buildings. I also learned that exterior paint protects against "microbial growths that can degrade wood, masonry, or metal surfaces." Interior paints don’t protect as much as exterior paints do. They are more for decoration, but they do have interesting uses that I wasn’t aware of. For example, they are used seal of cracks in dry wall. Some paints with higher sheen, which is the amount of shininess of the paint, modifies the light and heat radiation. some interior paints are even used as fire retardants. Conclusion While writing this research report I have learned a lot. There are more kinds of paint then I realized. This report helped me figure out the guidelines of my project and how I'm going to do it. I learned…show more content…
Which is my goal. I know the water content will be very different, but I need to find out how different. I can't wait to do the project, and see the results.
