Think about a hero or heroine who you admire, from either the past or present. Now think about what it is about them that inspires you. What it is they do (or have done), how they think, how they behave and what it is about them that make them stand out from others?
There could be a whole range of names that came to mind with this exercise; Mahatma Ghandi, Richard Branson or Florence Nightingale to name just a few – and of course, a diverse set of reasons that they stand out. Although I am confident that there would be a number of traits common to virtually any hero or heroine listed, for example:
Passion
Talent
Capability
Integrity
Compassion
Conscientiousness
Commitment
Drive
Determination
Yet if we examined the science behind their status,

Interestingly, when we follow the sound of another’s drum, we tend to lose a little of ourselves and our potential with it. This is certainly something I can relate to as I spent many years putting people on pedestals, trying to be like them; then later in life, realizing this was a fruitless task. When we learn to be true to ourselves, everything falls into place and success becomes effortless.
When we decide to take the reins of success and master the game of our life, then one of the first exercises we really need to do is define explicitly what success means to us. This isn’t just a wooly excuse of a mission statement – this is a profound statement that declares clearly what success looks, feels and sounds like for us and states the results it would give us.
When we begin to play our game, we naturally find that our performance alters. When we rely on compliance to other’s rules, we have to find energy to play, motivation to stay with it and ‘blood, sweat and tears’ to continue performing at their desired level. Whereas, imagine if we set our own rules and followed them passionately – what happens to our performance then? It raises a level and naturally develops a rhythm that takes us towards the very essence that is our success. Everyone is a winner when we engage with this
Characteristics such as strength, bravery and initiative allow someone typical to perform in a noble manner as heroes often do. An example of this is in the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf demonstrates initiative, bravery, and strength. As he fights to free his and other kingdom's people.
Heroes put others before themselves and will do anything to ensure that thing’s safety. Many people have either risked their lives or have loss their lives due to trying to save others. An example of this would be the man in the red bandana or Welles Crowther. Crowther was working in the twin towers as planes were crashing into them. Crowther could have ran away from the other people when the planes hit, but he chose not to spare himself, but to save others and sacrifice his own life.
We begin by beginning, I guess. " Montag from Fahrenheit 451 is a good example of someone who carries those traits. A hero is the best kind of person that someone can be.
There are many traits that heroes can demonstrate in stories. The two stories The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell both have heros in them. Connell’s story portrays a hero named Rainsford, who crosses a mysterious island where humans are hunted for fun, and he himself has to run for his life. Twain’s book follows a young boy named Huck, who has run away from his father, and his older friend Jim, who is a runaway slave. Jim is more of a hero because he is more self-sacrificing, unafraid of negative consequences, and more determined.
Heroes, and their adventures and stories are scattered throughout history. These heroes all accomplished different tasks, and won various battles. From Alexander the Great, to Eleanor Roosevelt, these heroes are people with qualities vital to achieving their goals. Alexander Hamilton and Annie Sullivan are both considered to be heroes. They both have determination, ambition, and are intelligent.
While we may often look up to celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Kin Kardashian, real heroes exhibit more selfless qualities that reach beyond that of a self-fulfilling celebrity. In many ways, real heroes stand strong with their beliefs possess confidence and patience. Furthermore, real heroes are persistent, devoted and most of all real heroes are revolutionary and break boundaries. As a matter of fact, Jackie Robinson is one of my personal heroes because he set in motion the change of boundaries for major league sports. Further, he is a hero who was born to start a revolution in the major league sports industry.
“Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live,” quoted Anne Sweeney, formerly the co-chair of Disney Media, President of the Disney–ABC Television Group, and the President of Disney Channel. In this quote, Anne wanted everyone to know that everyone has their own definitions of success and have their own ways to get their. Two ways that people define success is being happy or satisfied with what they love doing and reaching their goals after obstacles. These two features can be seen in the books, The Outliers, The Last Lecture, Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul and the article, Catching Kayla, by Digital Sports News. “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome,” stated
The person I consider to be an influential hero is Moira Smith. I refer to Moira Smith as a hero because she saved many strangers’ lives. Her life was dedicated to saving citizens from disasters that had occurred. Moira had even saved victims in exchange for her own life. Most people cannot do such a selfless thing as to risk their life to save others’.
In modern day, a hero is typically a person who is revered and appreciated for making or attempting to make a difference in the world. Qualities a hero may have are: integrity, leadership, strength, confidence, courage, and humility. These qualities have allowed and equipped men and women to fight for freedom, human rights, equality, and education. Although Malcolm X and Beowulf existed centuries apart and faced different adversities, they both share the heroic traits of courage and leadership. The epic hero Beowulf and the modern day hero Malcolm X both share the heroic characteristic of courage.
Heroes that helped change Prejudice What makes people act heroically ? For example the article “Woman who helped Anne Frank died at 100” , Miep Gies helped Anne Frank family escaped the holocaust. The article “How Jackie Robinson changed Baseball “, Jackie Robinson acted heroically because he wanted everyone to be treated the same. The article “The underground Railroad” , Harriet Tubman helped slaves escape and go to the north were they can be free.
Joseph Campbell once said, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” Many heroes throughout history are just ordinary people who are faced with difficult obstacles in life and through their strength and perseverance succeed. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and affect others’ lives differently. Without a history full of heroes, our world would not be the same. For the the 2017 Recognition Award, I nominate Clara Barton.
Heroes could be represented through divergent people. As I read the story A Hero in Disguise, it became clear to me that Harriet Tubman was a definite hero in my eyes. She was a heroin figure during times where slaves were owned. Harriet Tubman completed many assignments that helped multiple people through a difficult time. She guided many African Americans to freedom.
All heroes show some special qualities but it’s the determination that makes them a true
Mahdi Jaber Mrs. Schwartz British Literature Dec 5 2015 Heroes “Heroes represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Gandhi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity (Martin).” Respectively, anyone can be a hero but heroes are classified as people with aspects including Faith, loyalty, modesty, courtesy, honor, and bravery. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines a hero as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts of fine qualities.”
I, nevertheless, hold that success not merely means money, statue, and reputation; it means that pursues what you wholehearted want, then making your pursuit is accessible, and enjoys this process. Some people suggest that owning a great deal of money is success, which has become the symbol of success. I
