In “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the color red symbolizes uncertainty of how life will play out. It was neither autumn nor summer, the time in which death was prominent. The garden was stained brown, and the bleeding tree arose from the ground, intimidating the atmosphere. The young boy recalled his dear little brother, Doodle they called him. “He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red and shriveled like an old man's....
The red is for hardiness and valor. It stands for freedom, ideas, values, and principles that our country was formed on. It represents unity of all fifty states under one nation. People look at it as a sign of hope for a better life.
(Xu 2013) As I mentioned before red is associated with all the deaths and more specifically blood. At one point in the story it started foreshadowing the end of the story, ‘“in front of wayside garages, where new red gas-pumps sat out in pools of light.” (Ibid 170) In this sentence, the author not only uses the color “red”, but also uses the word “pool”, which indicates the ending of the story’”(Haibing 5)
Green representing the future, vitality and exploration. Gold representing money while yellow represents corruptness, moral decay, falsehood, and death. White representing beauty, innocence, wealth, in other words; morally unblemished or honorable. Red is used to respectively depict
One of the most pertinent and ironic themes I derived from Cermony is the United States’s relationship with Native Americans. The struggles of Native Americans and the American government have had colonialism entwined in its roots since the dawn of modern society. These struggles have been incredibly bleak and American settlers have had a history of attempting to destroy and reinvent native american people and repeated attempts of using their land for selfish and destructive purposes. In the modern era, these purposes have been merely to make reservations into sacrifice zones for the United States’s nuclear endeavors and a storage space for the byproducts that a Nuclearism mind-state can produce. "They see no life when they look they see only
Leslie Ventura REL 100 Final Paper: Jewish Wedding Society today is made up of a mosaic of different cultures and religions. Visitors to the U.S. can see the incorporation of many traditions and rituals from other countries. Throughout history there have been many refugees who leave their homelands which has led to the spread of different cultures and traditions around the world. For Jews, the spread of Judaism was caused by diaspora, or dispersion of people outside their countries, which happened several times in history. Even though Judaism is widespread, there is a consistency in the basic traditions and holidays that are celebrated.
The red symbolized the blood shed that the savages have lost while working. This is significant because using the word red instead of blood shows how there is a lack of respect for the indigenous people in the Congo, thus making the “heart” darker than it already
The details of the wedding ceremony suggest a lot of information about the communication style that is taking place throughout the ceremony. One type of information that is demonstrated throughout the ceremony is the idea of the Hindu religion being part of a high context culture. High context cultures are cultures that do not explicitly transmit message but instead meaning is implied by the environment (Lustig & Koester, 2013). The Hindu wedding ceremony is full of these indirect messages that are common with the high context culture. First there are a lot of symbols used in the wedding ceremony.
The color red can represent sin, as stated in another analysis of the poem, “The wine and steak and newborn bloody child indicates perhaps this sexual act is sin; red often symbolizing sins in religion.” (Jessica Myers, Analysis of Sex Without Love by Sharon Olds, 2014) but what I find is that it has a double meaning which signifies lust as well. In the poem, red is a double edged sword to promote both the idea of lust and self enjoyment during sex, as well as sinful nature deeply rooted in different religions. It’s not difficult to imagine the speaker thinking often about such a situation in their
Personal Statement I would like to confirm that it is my motivating of Chinese culture that ignited my passion for cultural and creative industry. As a Tourism Management major student, I was able to explore the Chinese diversified cultures and landscapes, which offered me an insightful understanding of the Chinese cultural development. Under the guidance of commercialization, some cultural heritages have developed into huge tourism souvenir markets full of counterfeit and shoddy products. The over-commercialization reveals the fact that the Chinese culture is facing a severe situation. The country calls for a better cultural development strategy, which cultural and creative industry can offer.
Ceremony Ethnography In North American culture, weddings are usually a lavish celebration of joining two families. Recently, at a wedding I attended with my family, I noticed many things about the role of music in the wedding ceremony. Usually weddings are composed of a ceremony, with a reception or celebration afterwards. In this wedding, there was a limited role of music in the actual ceremony (other than the bridal procession/ “Here Comes the Bride” and when the newlyweds exited at the end of the wedding), however the role of music was more substantial in the wedding reception (in which there was celebratory music and dancing).
Love, Trust, and Family Renowned film critic Roger Ebert has praised Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding for the way that it “leaps national boundaries and celebrates universal human nature.” Indeed, despite the many differences that seem to divide people, there are also aspects of life that are present in the lives of everyone that can be used to relate and understand those with a different background. Throughout the story, the creators allow their audience to relate to a traditional Indian family through the emotions they share with the characters and the way that they deal with issues involving, love, trust, and family while still understanding the many differences between traditional American culture and the culture of those within the film.
