Some reasons for teachers to use technology in classroom instruction are to promote student agreement, to teach 21st century skills, to stay current, to have hand-on interactive learning, to vary instructional method, to conduct research, and to communicate (Hakverdi-Can & Dana, 2012; Hechter & Vermette,2012a). Girdin, Kurt and Odabasi (2011) further mentioned that not only do teachers need to learn how to use technology but they also need to learn how to apply the technology to teaching to teaching and learning, where in they need to know which technologies will most effectively meet children’s skills, abilities and needs. However, for many teachers, lack of personal experience with technology presents a challenge. In order to incorporate …show more content…

Gone is dining room table conversation, replaced by the “big screen” and take out. So what is the impact of technology on the developing child? The impact of rapidly advancing technology on the developing child has seen an increase of physical, psychological and behavior disorder that the health and education systems are just beginning to detect, matchless understand. For critical factors necessary to achieve healthy child development are movement, touch, human connection, and exposure to nature. These types of sensory inputs ensure normal development of posture, by lateral coordination, optimal arousal states and self regulation necessary for achieving foundation skills for eventual school entry. Young children require two to three hours per day of active rough and tumble play to achieve adequate sensory stimulation to their vestibular, proprioceptive tactile systems. Tactile stimulation received trough touching, hugging and play is critical for the development of praxis, or planned movement pattern. Touch also activates the parasympathetic system lowering cortical, adrenaline and anxiety. Nature and “green space” has not only calming influence on children, but also in attention restorative and promotes …show more content…

This sensory imbalanced creates huge problems in overall neurological development, as the brains anatomy, chemistry and pathways become permanently altered and impaired. Young children who are exposed to violence through TV and video games are in a high state of adrenalin and stress, as the body does not know that what they are watching is not real. Children who over use technology report persistent body sensations of overall “shaking”, increased breathing and heart rate, and a general state of “unease”. This can best be described as a persistent hypervigalent sensory system, still “on alert” for the oncoming assault. While the long term effects of this chronic state of stress in the developing child are unknown, we do know hugging, playing, rough housing, and conversing with children, parents are increasingly resorting to providing their children with more TV, video films and latest iPads and cellphone devices, creating a deep and irreversible chasm between parent and
