The mean annual air temperature has increased by a rate of 0.28оС in the last 10 year in Kazakhstan. The greatest warming occurred during the winters with an average rate of 0.35оС and the lowest warming happened in summers with the average rate of 0.18оС.[ ]

"In recent decades, the frequency of severe and moderate droughts has increased, causing significant damage to Kazakhstan's agriculture. In the main grain-growing regions of Kazakhstan, significant drought for agriculture has a probability of recurrence once every 3-5 years. Strong droughts, leading to a decrease in the average regional yield of grain crops by 50% or more, are highly repeatable in the West Kazakhstan, Aktobe, Karaganda and Kostanay regions - once every 4-5 years, "the ministry explained.
As shown by the research conducted by the Institute of Geography, during the last 50 years the glaciation of the northern slope of the Trans-Ili Alatau has decreased by more than 40%, losing 0.8% of its area per year. If the current trend of glacier degradation persists, by the end of the 21st century glaciers of the northern slope of the Trans-Ili Alatau may disappear, which will lead to catastrophic consequences. For example, because of the disappearance of small glaciers in the summer, the risk of drying out of small rivers will start to increase, this may lead to a shortage of water resources.
