Introduction Tourism is one of the largest economic sectors worldwide and fastest-growing industries nowadays. One of the major issue and growing global significance is climate change. The importance of tourism and outdoor activities, and the interrelation especially significant for recreation is weather and climate. Climate influences the temporal distribution of tourists throughout the year, and defined the environmental context for example flora, fauna, resources such as rivers or glaciers in tourism activities development. For some destinations, they are the main reason for the tourists to travel to the regions for certain climatic characteristics marketed as an attraction (ref). Climate change presents an immediate and significant threat to our natural and built environments and to the ways of life which co-exist with these environments. Climate and weather are taking an important place as a factor in tourist’s decision making and also will influence the successful of the relationship of operation of the tourism businesses. Moreover, …show more content…
The majority of literature focuses on the direct and indirect consequences of climate change. From a tourist industry perspective, when there is a natural disaster, tourist destinations can experience decline in tourist arrivals to an affected area; decrease in tourism revenue and the economic slowdown due to a lack of visitors; decline in business revenue or business closure and job loss due t lower visitor spend; decrease in disposable income of locals leading to multiplier effects in the affected areas which cause more businesses to decline and increase government spending due to lower tax revenue, combined with providing recovery-related
The major impact is the cost to rebuild things effected by nature. Rebulding homes can be used as one example. As the community knows, storms of any kind just come and go. The major storms though, cause quiete a comosion. They destroy houses, building, anything they lay their eyes on.
The Council has played an important role in science and technology to deal with climate change impacts. The federal government and states have come up with so many solutions to reduce the consequences of climate change such as beach nourishment, restoration and increase the natural areas. The hurricane Sandy in 2012 and Katrina 2005 caused serious damage to people and properties. Due to the rising risk of hurricane and storm, they
Acts of God: Chapters 1-2 In Acts of God, Ted Steinberg uncovers, among other things, how natural disasters have come to be perceived as beyond human control. Steinberg contends that the book focuses on the environmental, cultural, and social history of natural disasters. The text also expands on the relationship between humans and natural disasters. Indeed, chapter one elaborates on the Mount Pelee attraction on Coney Island and the history of calamity in Charleston, South Carolina.
People may know about climate change and the drastic changes it is having on the environment, but what they may not be aware of is that another degree increase in the world’s average temperature will cause even bigger problems for people all over. Climate change is long term shifts in temperature and patterns in the weather. Greenhouse gasses, gasses that trap heat in the atmosphere causing it to warm up are at an all-time high due to humans and the amount of fossil fuels we use. The most crucial result of climate change is global health, but animal endangerment and the rise in sea levels are also very important effects.
Water rising due to climate change is impacting people by causing islands to get flooded. This causes people to have to evacuate and find new homes, which can cause overpopulation in some cases (Doc G & H). Climate change is also impacting people because of health. The warmer temperatures cause there to be longer pollen seasons since the cold comes later and goes away sooner (Doc E). This makes for miserable and potentially dangerous summers for people who are allergic to pollen (Doc F).
As noted earlier, tourism is one of the biggest business in Florida and the US Virgin islands, and with most of its tourist attraction destroyed, it leaves the state and territories still shaky about the future of their economy. Hurricane Irma have not only impacted the economy but more so the residents who are still trying to come to grip being a survivor of this catastrophic
Climate change is believed to be the biggest issue facing the Earth. It is a long-term change in the Earth’s temperatures and climate (“Climate Change”, Dictionary.com). Our atmosphere is part of the reason why we can live on Earth with reasonable temperatures. Humans have been emitting unnatural greenhouse gases, like coal, oil, and gas. This is changing the natural systems that take place in our atmosphere.
Haiti, a sovereign state located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea, is one of the world 's poorest and least developed countries. Same to other developing countries, Haiti developed agriculture instead of industry. Furthermore, Haiti is a country which always happened flooding, droughts, hurricanes and other meteorological disasters that were mainly caused by climate change. These disasters did affect Haiti a lot in the aspect of economy change, diseases like malaria or cholera caused by tropical Cyclone hotspots and vulnerability and adaptive capability of this country. First of all, hurricanes and droughts caused by climate change produced a very big effect on economy of Haiti.
Ice road trucking is being affected by climate change because they depend on the lakes to stay frozen in order to take resources to mines and isolated villages. They’re already in potential danger but with temperatures decreasing it’s even more dangerous. Things need to be transported to the north to continue mining for things to help the economy. If ice roads stop, then planes would be leant on to travel items and goods, and planes are worse for the environment. Climate change will affect communities in the north by destroying the best way to transport things.
Global warming can cause many changes in our environment. Polar ice caps can start to melt which can cause rising sea levels and can easily lead to coastal flooding on the eastern seaboard. There can also be affects on the types of storms that can occur if global warming continues. Scientists say that category three storms can turn into a more dangerous category fours. Farms and cities will face new pests, heatwaves, heavy downpours, and increased flooding.
Throughout history Earth`s climate has changed a lot, and there is a lot of evidence that shows how humans have contributed to this changed and effected the Earth. Just in the last 650,000 years there have been seven cycles of glacial advances, the increase in the thickness and area of a glacier. As well as glacial retreats, a condition occurring when backward melting at the front of a glacier takes place at a rate exceeding forward motion. Most climate changes are attributed to very small variations in the earth`s orbit, that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives. The 21st century has seen the most temperature records broken in recorded history.
Therefore, tourism may be defined as the activities, processes and outcomes by the relationship and interaction among the tourist, government, suppliers of the tourism, the host communities and the environment that surrounding the destination which involved in attracting and accommodating of the visitors (Goeldner & Ritchie, 2009). According to Goelner & Ritchie (2009), there are four different perspectives of tourism can be identified from the tourist, business operator who providing goods and services, government of the host destination area and the local community. The first group is the tourists or visitors. They are the group who search for various travel experiences and satisfaction physically and psychologically.
Tourism can be considered one of the most significant economic and social phenomena of the twentieth and twenty-first century. The evolving of the tourist’s behavior has triggered a series of changes in the way of operating the tourism businesses. From traditional travel agencies, hotels and airlines up to the online tour operators. All tour operators have had to adapt to the changes of the individual as a traveler and this has led to continuous development of strategies by the agents.
Rural development is as important as urban development. Alleviating the hardships of the rural people is fundamental to rural development. Efforts at developing the rural areas are aimed at creating industries and employment opportunities. Any initiative towards this end would be welcomed with open arms in Nepal. This would also reduce the population density in the cities.
The concept brings proofs on how people spend their time, in which areas and for which purposes. (Nash, 1960, cited in Morgan…). As the people spend their time on different activities, one of those activities is tourism. As well as leisure, tourism has many definitions; we will use one of those which reflect main idea. Tourism is a
