As a participant in the field, I was able to witness and to make sense of the clubbing experience based on the feeling of constant fun and a quick-fix for stress. Entering a club gives the atmosphere of merry-making where everyone tries to forget their problems by socializing, drinking and dancing. Everywhere you look, people are laughing and talking with each other indicating revelry. Dancing also becomes a means for them to loosen up. Dancing in clubs makes a person become part of a collective while maintaining his/her individuality. Engaging in a dance shows the transcendent character of live music (Behr et al., 2014) resulting to an overwhelming experience particularly when in a crowd. This is an important element of clubbing as a stress-reliever for participants because as Randy pointed out, “kapag nadiyan ka na sa dance floor, wala nang pakialamanan.” (if you are already on the dance floor, you won’t care about other people anymore). This is rooted from the fact that clubbing reflects liberation based on the idea that it becomes a kind of play.
As seen in the aforementioned discussion, it can be said that experience, along with the value associated with it, is a very important component of clubbing. However, experience cannot be fully internalized without

As opposed to bars or restaurants, clubs do not completely encourage conversations but dancing and merry-making. The sound-proofed venue unravels the loud cheering, deafening dance music, and dim-lighted, smoke-filled atmosphere as you open the door going inside the club. Although such characteristics of a place is not suited for all ages and backgrounds, the environment and experience depict enjoyment for people as the characteristics of the place heightens the senses of
On the night of the fire, overcrowding and insufficient egress options contributed to the tragedy. An estimated 1,000 individuals were present in the nightclub, well beyond its authorized capacity. The building's layout included a main floor, balcony, and multiple connected spaces, creating a very complex
Over the past few days I have been reading a book that I believe you would enjoy. The book is called Cocktail Party Economics and is meant to explain economics to people who have never been taught the course. One thing that separates this book from other economic books is the way the author explains the topics.
These two are used to evaluate systems of resource allocation. Allocating a resource means deciding what to use it for. The reason resource allocation is important, is because economics studies what people do when resources are scarce, that is, when there 's not enough resources to satisfy all the human wants that are competing for them. Its very rare to find a perfectly functional competitive market. Even though they are efficient they result in very inequitable markets.
Hoopla Cliques production of ‘Chores’ entertained and influenced young audiences as they followed the life of two teenage boys Patty and Jules. By Completing their chore of cleaning their room Patty and Jules could continue doing the things they love. By Successfully utilising conventions of clowning and manipulating tension the production was easily able to communicate the dramatic meaning, when hard work is achieved, you can have the fun you dreamt of. Conventions of clowning where accurately manipulated throughout the piece to convey a storyline that kept the audience’s attention. One of these convention was the use of slapstick.
Why did the owners choose this name for their club? For the depiction of the interior and how it depicted african americans 4. Think: If you were an African-American musician, how might you feel in this club after you had just finished playing your set?
Many students just assume that partying is the only thing to do for fun here simply because they do not know about any other options. Phi Slam’s biggest goal is to change this. It wants to be that alternative option to the fun downtown by providing a similar or better atmosphere, in my opinion that does not include alcohol. Coming into Athens I personally did not want to do the whole party scene but I knew it was the way most students spent their free time.
For my second experiential learning assignment, I decided to break a social norm while going out to eat with my family at a restaurant: granted this is something I have a habit of doing but the reaction I got from my dining mates was particularly interesting this time. To give a little bit of background of the setting I was in at the time, I was with my mother, younger brother, and my mother’s friend at a restaurant in DC for my birthday dinner. The restaurant was crowded, but not many people were paying attention to what we were doing. The behavior I decided to break was dipping my fingers in the container caramel was in and then proceeded lick my fingers after doing so. I choose to break this social norm because one, the caramel sauce was really good, and two I was testing to see if my mother would say anything: normally on my birthday she lets me get away with
In her article, Embodying Difference, Jane Desmond argues that dance offers important insights into the ways moving bodies articulate cultural meanings and social identities. In other words, she explains the importance of studying the body’s movement as a way of understanding culture and society. She has two main arguments. First, she argues for the importance of the continually changing relational constitutions of cultural forms. Desmond further explains that the key to shedding light on the unequal distribution of power and goods that shape social relations are the concepts of cultural resistance, appropriation, and cultural imperialism (49).
A dance film, on the other hand, employs dance as a main character with a more pivotal role in the transformation of the protagonist. Thus, in Shall We Dansu?, because it is an active force in the narrative with human-like characteristics, such as being shrouded in shame, ballroom dance becomes an initiator of intimacy. In Salsa and DanceSport, McMains explains Mexican-American Giselle Fernandez’s need for a creation of an alter ego despite already being
For our group and our shared love of food we figured that a social norm that had something to do with that would be perfect for us. We decided that the norm to drive through a drive thru needed to be tested. Why should cars be the only ones with the fast access to fast food at their convenience? We believed that people should be able to walk through the drive thrus if it is more convenient for them.
A sense of elitism has arisen within musical genes, stemming from rock, punk, folk, etc. believing that they are valid and true forms of music, but that due to the way disco is produced, it fails to be a genre. However, disco is much more than a genre- it is a whole unique culture that supports many marginalized identities. As Dyer states, ‘disco is also kinds of dancing, club, fashion, film, etc. – in a word, a certain sensibility’ (Dyer 20).
The Ever Controlling Government The ban on alcohol is one of the most ironic things the government has done. Since the prohibition had passed alcohol has become cheaper which ironically is the antithesis of what the ban had hoped to achieve. With the decrease in price and the controversy around alcohol, liquor has revealed many interesting behaviours of the American public. Mr. Gatsby of West Egg and alcohol have a very particular relationship, not in the sense of abuse necessarily, but one of excess for certain.
The dancers were observed to be full of energy which showed through their movements and dancing. Every movement was sharp and clean. Furthermore, the action portion of the basic dance elements was seen through the dancer’s basic movements that turned into dancing. For example, in one scene, the actor jumped off the table and broke into a little skip-glide dancing movement.
“Don’t let our modern society shape who you are and don’t allow stereotypes to define you. Live outside of labels we so often stick upon ourselves and allow your individuality to change the world around you.” (unknown). This quote by an unknown person shows how you shouldn’t allow the modern stereotypes of gender define or affect you because men and women can have just as much self control as the other. In the short story “The Dinner Party” by Mona Gardner, a colonel official and his wife are throwing a large dinner party with multiple people of high social standings from army officers to government attaches.
People whom are on Social Media are twice as likely to feel isolated. As the internet has grown people are seeing it in different light. The name “Social Media” was give as these sites were to bring people together and make them more included in today’s society. Experts on the topic say that in certain areas it’s quite helpful, while others argue how it’s keeping the younger generation away from face to face socializing and making them far more isolated. People feel more inclined to share opinions about SM because of its high impact on today’s online age.
