A Code of Ethics describes the standards of practice expected of the group of people to whom it refers. “Ethics are defined as a set of principles of right conducts; the rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession” (Dictionary of the Human Language, 2000). It is vital for every early childhood practitioner to have knowledge of the Code and skills in applying it in their daily practice. Teachers should comply with and refer to a code of ethics to aid teach in the most appropriate and ethical way; as well as a guide to help deal with dilemmas. Those who adhere to this Code of Ethics act in the best interests of all children and work together to ensure that every child is thriving and learning.

In the field of early childhood education, professional development is an important way for teachers to refresh and deepen one’s knowledge and learn new ways to help children learn. It is difficult to mantain a sense of engagement when using the same old lesson routines or reading texts time after time. If we do not take steps towards development, it is difficult to mantain the initial enthusiasm (Harmer, 2007).
