There are many different ways to change your appearance but hair colouring is the most unique. Changing the colour of your hair provides a sort of feel good factor. Some people who are born blonde, want to be brunette and vise versa. In order for you to change the colour of your hair you need to go through a dyeing process. The dyeing of hair involves careful chemical manipulation of the chemistry of hair fibres. Either penetrating the cubicle or just sitting on top of the hair fibre. Some people just want to lighten or darken their hair and others nay want a complete change. Social and cultural customs have led to the demand for exotic hair colours like red and blue. Permanent hair colours or tints are mixed with hydrogen peroxide to create oxidation dyes. Permanent hair colour molecules are much smaller than that of temporary dyes. Being alkaline, the colour opens up the cuticle allowing the very small molecules to enter the cortex. The small molecules connect with the hydrogen peroxide and become much bigger molecules. In permanent hair dye there are chemical reactions taking place because the hair dye needs to penetrate the cuticle and go into the hair shaft whereas temporary hair dyes just coat the strands of hair. No chemical reaction needs to take place in temporary dyeing because the colour does not need to be deposited into the cuticle. Because the molecules of colouration in permanent dyes start off small and expand once combined with the hydrogen peroxide and ammonia they will be stuck in the hair shaft. This is the reason they are called permanent dyes. The colouration pigments stay there permanently and do not come out in juts one wash.
