Methodologically, getting out of your comfort zone entails doing whatever it is that makes you uncomfortable. This means doing things that you resist, hate, or even fear. As long as you do that, you will naturally expand your comfort zone. However, for someone to want to push him/herself out of his/her comfort zone constantly, to always be in the face of discomfort, uncertainty, and resistance, AND be okay with that, there needs be a reason, a spark, a fuel, to drive him/her forward despite resistances. This reason can be a passion he/she is trying to pursue or a vision he/she is trying to realize. Knowing this reason is actually more important than learning tips and strategies to expand one’s comfort zone, because once you are driven by …show more content…
Every little thing you do that is a deviation from your usual routine is one step outside of your comfort zone. For example, try a different route to work. Order a different dish from your favorite restaurant. Speak to that colleague whom you normally would not talk to. Email that guy/girl you like to say hi. ;) Fall in love with discomfort. The whole essence of moving out of one’s comfort zone is about learning be okay with being uncomfortable. Better yet, learn to love to be uncomfortable. Whenever I feel uncomfortable (cue: tingling of spider senses), I know it’s a good thing because it means that I’m growing. I don’t resist that feeling of discomfort; rather, I embrace it. Constantly try new things. Make a point to try something new every week. It can be as simple as reading a new book, trying rock climbing, or something. I’m always open to doing different things, as long as they fall within my personal agenda. In fact as a personal principle, I will always give something at least one shot too before I write it off. This is how I came to be a vegan actually—in January 2008, I gave vegetarianism a shot for 30 days just to see how it’s like, and ended up liking it so much that I remained a vegetarian thereafter. I then transited to veganism after a few
In my life recently, I have been focused on this idea of doing things we do not necessarily want to do, but we need to do. In order for us to experience a complete life change, we need to do things that make us feel uncomfortable. We must have faith that if God puts us in something that he
If we do not experience different things, then we become stagnant and will not grow in our everyday lives. It becomes very important to recognize when there is a need for change. When our lives plateau or we recognize that there is a need to improve in some way, then we need to take the necessary steps to make us happy and satisfied. While it is important to learn how to handle different situations, there are many times where we don’t necessarily desire change. There are times when we have no control over what is happening in our lives.
The ability to cope with different environments immediately is what few people possess therefore many people suffer from a change in environment. Ishmael Beah and Muhammad Saeed, both had to deal with massive changes in the environment, leading to having many negative experiences. My situation was relatively identical to theirs. After suffering for many years I found a way to help me cope with a different or challenging environment. I was in Pakistan for all my life, it was a magnificent place nevertheless, many people consider it as a third world country.
Even though I eat meat again today, I consume a significantly less amount, as well as eat a more holistic diet. Vegetarianism taught me how to live a more balanced life and appreciate the small treasures, even a baby pig. Given the chance, I would absolutely choose to eat meatless products again for six months. While I do enjoy a variety of food like chicken parmesan, beef stroganoff, and eggs and bacon, I will always say “pass the peas” at a family dinner. While challenging the belief to have a herbivore diet, I learned to trust myself knowing I have the will power to succeed in any goal I choose.
New experiences come challenges and anxieties that can be overwhelming if not handled and dealt with wisely. Making the
I went through a phase where I was very closed off to everything and unwilling to try new things. Three years after this original move, I moved from Phoenix to Columbus, Ohio. Right before this move, I was beginning to come out of my shell and return to the original person I had been for the fourteen
Into the Life of Chris McCandless Chris McCandless, a unique man, embarked on the journey of a lifetime. During his adventure, he broke away from the constraints of society and he learned what is important in life. I admire what Chris was trying to accomplish by heading “into the wild”, and I can see parts of my beliefs in his. My experiences are different from McCandless’ experiences in as many ways as they are similar.
Because traumatic brain injury can become a painful and lonely place, a lot of people misunderstand it. Also, no one talks about the problem much, which leads to a lack of awareness. In many cases, the TBI patient feels like no one understands or believes what they are experiencing. For a lot of cases, depression and anxiety come as a pair, and they are common for people who have a TBI or chronic pain.
It took me a while to accept that what I did every day was my life. I didn’t like it, I missed my family in Texas, and I missed my old friends. I had to grow up a little every day. At the end of it all I had dealt with a broken rib, taking care of siblings, and a new school. From that move I learned to accept and adapt to change.

The purpose of this essay is to pick apart Mill’s essay and to give my own personal opinion about happiness. Stuart believed that you could achieve happiness by helping others achieve happiness and by finding things that you enjoy in life. I believe the key to happiness is helping other people achieve their happiness, do things that you enjoy doing, and looking at things in the brightest way possible. I honestly believe that everyone wakes up in the morning wanting to be happy, I have never seen a person who wakes up saying, “ I want to have an absolutely miserable day today”. It is human nature to strive for happiness and do things that you enjoy to do.
What I must remember that people are constantly catching me. Whatever I may do may be a role model inspiring others model for growth and change. Moving outside of my comfort zone can and will apply in every area of my life. If I want to succeed at a personal or organizational level then I must continually challenge myself, by trying new
Starting off small and becoming vegetarian is an amazing start. Vegetarians, are a less radical version of vegans. While they eliminate meat products, like chicken or meat, they still consume dairy products like, milk or cheese. The point is, it can be done. Veganism is the key to a healthier
