English plays an important role in the lives of people around the world. Globalization has made that English is a pivotal factor for the development of all countries in terms of economy, politics, information technology, cultures, and education(Carter & Nunan, 2001). As a result, many countries realize that English communicative competence must be developed and English pedagogy in all schools must be improved. English is used as a second language(ESL) in many countries and it is used as a medium of instruction in schools. Recently, the time for learning English in many countries have extended, and it is started at the lower levels in primary schools. The reasons behind teaching English is vary in younger children is because they believe …show more content…

There are many factors that can affect a child’s language and communication. Some of these factors can be positive; however, some can be negative. A cultural factor affecting emergent literacy could be children who have English as an additional language (EAL) this is because they know more of their native language than they do English and can be difficult to grasp another language at such a young age. Also some EAL children may have the knowledge of the English language and can speak the language however; their self-esteem, self-confidence and shyness could play a part in this and therefore may not be willing to use the English language. Also, EAL children may find it difficult to grasp the English alphabet.
Most of the world now requires individuals to speak English. The language is so common that most continents’ institutions are putting English into their curriculums. However, some places have put English as their second language. These countries are falling behind as the world is advancing. Eventually, they will lose contact with the rest of the English speaking world.
One of the Founding Fathers of the United States, Benjamin Franklin, once said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This is a particular way of learning in which I have come to realize that is extremely useful for myself and my learning experience. Through my educational career, I have either thrived or struggled in the subject of English.
Meta-Cognition Journal For this journal, I will be reflecting on my English study throughout this semester and past years. This will also be about how I have approached, reflected, extended and applied my knowledge from grade eleven English to the real world. In previous years, the focus of English courses are very different from grade eleven English. The focus of the previous courses were normally personal writing structure and different forms of prose, and it normally was about learning about rants, newspaper articles, persuasive articles, and more.
The parents or adults that are learning English as a second or other language may find that it is difficult communicating with their child's teachers. In addition, many Non-English parents experience low self-esteem, culture shock, and misunderstandings. Language difference can confuse parents about their role in education and how to help their children. Parents who do not speak English may not understand newsletters, handouts, or speakers at meetings, however non-English speaking parents wants their child to receive an education that will allow them to have a better future. Even when language differences take place, a teacher's willingness or attempt to speak the home language can deliver care for the parents because the willingness can encourage them to feel comfortable enough to speak in English plus can improve possibilities for communication.
There is more to the Jewish identity during the Holocaust than having been victimized by the Nazi regime. Language and literacy have always been a significant part of Jewish identity, especially as they are known as “people of the book.” Moshe Halbertal states in his book People of the Book: Canon, Meaning, and Authority, “The Jews became the ‘people of the book’ after a long history that defined the relationship of the community toward the canonized texts and established the diverse functions of texts” (Halbertal 10). After the Holocaust, the Jews’ relationship to literacy changed from being a way to connect with their canonized texts. Literacy became a significant tool as it enabled, and still continues to enable, the Holocaust Jews to stand as witnesses to their experiences and reconnect to the past, as “many Holocaust survivors also give testimony to the world, express their grief over lost ones, and attempt to restore singular identities of victims through names and personal voices” (Schindler) through writing.
Interpersonal communication seeks to understand how humans use verbal and nonverbal cues to accomplish personal and relational goals. It is an important area of study, as it helps us better understand how to communicate with others. This paper draws upon interpersonal communication theories, and applies them to one of my own personal challenges. In doing so, we can see how these theories fit into our everyday lives. In addition, we can also improve our own communication skills, and resolve problems using these communication theories and strategies.
Introduction: The process of communicating successfully with our family, friends, co-workers, business associates and people is one of the most critical skills. Communication is such a key part of life that I often tell to a person that “Its no use of someone if he/she really don’t know by associates people in their work place or area of field”. Communication makes us to be known of others, good or bad that depends on usability of a person communication. And, it is up to each of us to learn to communicate well with those who are important to us.

Clara is a student in the class I help. She is an English Language Learner (ELL) student. When interacting with Clara I was able to realize that she is a very bright student, she is very motivated and has a goal in mind. One afternoon during homework help she opened up to me and talked about her family; she told me that they where from Guatemala. Her mom had her when she was very young and that because having a child is too much work the mom had to stop going to school.
This means that the language of the child should be used by the teacher through sharing, get meaning and clarify and vocabulary the guide the leaner to the use of the Standard English. Taylor, (1985) cites that traditional classroom methodologies employed in education have failed because they have been prescriptive and corrective and have focused too much on language structure rather than on communicative competence. This is a typical example of the society tends to lean towards
