With the rapid innovation and worldwide spread of technology throughout the world, computer-mediated communication was made possible. CMC, as defined by Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic (2004) cited in Norris (2012), is the communication among people through the employment of computers. Though at present, CMC is not just limited to computer sets and laptops, rather, it is also applicable to any electronic device that is capable of sending and retrieving small or even large information, allowing a virtual interaction between two or more people. One of the contributions of computer-mediated communication is the existence of a microblogging social media application, Twitter. For example, a Filipino individual who watches a Filipino teleserye will find it easier to drop jokes about that particular teleserye also to the same Filipino who watches it. To add with, an American would joke around cultures and phenomena such as “liberality” and “Election 2017” respectively, only to his/her co-American which would take his/her jokes nothing but mere humorous utterances. It is not appropriate though to joke around with people from other cultures and societies unless one knows that person intimately for jokes sometimes may be taken up seriously especially that all are living in a diverse world, with people having different thoughts and beliefs. With this, Humor can easily be understood only through the use of language and its other important components. According to Aarons (2012), some humor is based on understanding the rules of how we divide up words and add prefixes and suffixes, as well as what constitutes a prefix or suffix (phonology.) To add with, humor may also be based on our knowledge that words may have more than one meaning (semantics.) Lastly, humor may even be based on the organization of phrases in a sentence
