With the rapid innovation and worldwide spread of technology throughout the world, computer-mediated communication was made possible. CMC, as defined by Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic (2004) cited in Norris (2012), is the communication among people through the employment of computers. Though at present, CMC is not just limited to computer sets and laptops, rather, it is also applicable to any electronic device that is capable of sending and retrieving small or even large information, allowing a virtual interaction between two or more people. One of the contributions of computer-mediated communication is the existence of a microblogging social media application, Twitter. Twitter, from a dictionary definition, is a verb which means to utter successive …show more content…
For example, a Filipino individual who watches a Filipino teleserye will find it easier to drop jokes about that particular teleserye also to the same Filipino who watches it. To add with, an American would joke around cultures and phenomena such as “liberality” and “Election 2017” respectively, only to his/her co-American which would take his/her jokes nothing but mere humorous utterances. It is not appropriate though to joke around with people from other cultures and societies unless one knows that person intimately for jokes sometimes may be taken up seriously especially that all are living in a diverse world, with people having different thoughts and beliefs. With this, Humor can easily be understood only through the use of language and its other important components. According to Aarons (2012), some humor is based on understanding the rules of how we divide up words and add prefixes and suffixes, as well as what constitutes a prefix or suffix (phonology.) To add with, humor may also be based on our knowledge that words may have more than one meaning (semantics.) Lastly, humor may even be based on the organization of phrases in a sentence
In today’s age, there has never been more political correctness in our country. If someone says something that offends anyone, regardless of its factuality or veracity, they will be questioned and challenged. Because of this borderline-censorship, we must still have a way to engage audiences and get our point across. Humor provides this. Humorists are able to dive into topics that can be very polarizing and, with the way they communicate, can bring people together while expressing certain opinions.

Humor is the ingredient that keeps it all moving, holds the bigger picture, inspires and brings a sense of gratitude for life. Aspiring to these qualities illuminates the lack of them at times. When I hit this kind of wall or low, I turn to the smile and humor to elevate my
To clarify, this means that humor can come from outside sources, it can be derived from solely the character’s personalities or it can be on a basis of all puns, sarcasm, or slapstick humor. In “Bridesmaids”, referring back the airplane scene, Kristen Wiig is presently intoxicated when going to see her friends that were seated in first class. Wiig’s conveys her drunken sarcasm when speaking with another bridesmaid, Helen who is played by Rose Byrne. Wiig expresses her reaction to Byrne by altering the tone in her voice but still portraying a “caring” response. A conflict also occurs between the two actresses during the engagement party.
Sometimes, it can also take the form of self-derision. It is one of the oldest themes on the basis of which humor is analyzed. According to this theory, a person can be found comical is therefore considered to be inferior, if he or she is inadequate according to a set of agreed-upon group or societal criteria. Both Plato and Aristotle wrote about humor as a form of mockery or disdain, usually self-directed, which should be kept at a minimum (Janco, 1984). The expression of humor as superiority can either serve the mechanism of control or a form of

One of the most valuable aspects of personality is humor – we value one’s sense of humor and make friends often based on finding certain things funny. But how and why do we consider things to be funny at all? Human beings have strived to uncover fundamental truths about human nature for centuries – even millennia – but humor itself is still yet to be pinpointed. Henri Bergson is only one of many who has attempted this feat, and his essay Laughter: an essay on the meaning of the comic from 1911 breaks down comedy into what he believes to be its essential forms and origins. While Bergson makes many valid points, Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times that was brought to screens only twenty years later seems to contradict many of Bergson’s theories, while Bergson seems to contradict even himself over the course of his essay.
“True humor is fun-fit does not put down, kid, or mock. It makes people feel wonderful, not separate, different, and cut off.”- Hugh Prather. Laughing is my necessity in my day, maybe it’s not in my neighbor’s, but I will try my best to bring them joy. Laughter makes life ten times better, especially when it’s with close friends.

Many audiences of stand up comedy enjoy hearing their favorite comedian entertain them. But what would one think when a comedian cracks a joke about a sensitive topic, for example, a tragedy that affected hundreds of people. Some may argue that, comedians are not supposed to overstep the boundary of controversial jokes. These controversial jokes are linked with political correctness—which is used to describe language, policies, and measures that are taken to avoid offense to certain groups of people. Comedians are not compelled to restrain from controversial topics due to the topic not being sugar-coated, the higher level of contemplation that the joke can reach, and the job of the comedian—to make the current issue manageable.
