Computer technicians In order to be a computer technician you must, have a high school diploma or GED, you must have completed a formal training program, and they must have a driver’s license. (labor) A work setting for a normal technician is having a medium to high level of interaction with others, they must travel to and from work places in a truck or van, and they usually work 40 hours per week. Repairers, or field technicians, go to customers’ location to make repairs, or they bring the machine is to broken and needs extra work that can’t be told with their mobile problem finders, oscilloscopes, ammeters, and voltmeters, then they bring it back to their service center in order to make the repairs necessary to fix it. They also have to install new equipment and operating software. Some of the working conditions for a Computer technician are, they have a medium to high amount of talking to their customers and the public. They usually get called and talk on the phone but they eventually have to meet up with their customers and talk face to face. They must learn patience because they sometimes have to deal with rude or angry customers that are more or less affected by the not working machine. Technicians also have limited responsibility for work done by others because many technicians usually work in a team. Some of the physical demands are, “they must use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.” (labor) They must sit for long periods of time, and repeat a lot of the same movements. They must be able to see objects that are very close to them, speak clearly so that others can understand them. They must also be able to hold their hand and arm in a steady position to be able to put parts back together. They should be able to see the different colors of parts, and details symbolizing the different parts when only a few feet away. Most professional schools and some two year colleges offer this program. In these courses you learn about many different things, including electricity, using hand tools and how to test machines after repairing them. Most employers will supply on the job training for new repairers on certain equipment. Bigger companies may send the new repairers to outside training sessions.
