Conflict is when a character in a piece of literature faces something that opposes their desires and needs. In the selections, The Boston Girl, and Sybil Ludington’s Ride, the main characters struggle against their parents for their wellbeing. The girls, Addie and Sybil, feel like they can do more than what others say, but their parents feel it is dangerous and do not believe in them. The protagonists do what they believe in and have to face their parents and prove them wrong. Due to the parents concerning about their children, the main characters have to prove themselves worthy of the tasks at hand, allowing the conflict to erupt, man versus man. In Boston Girl, Addie faces a challenge with a recitation of a poem for a famous poet, her teacher believes in her and she thinks that she can do this task. Addie’s mother is concerned about food and coal to keep her children fed and safe rather than concerned about Addie’s recitation, this makes Addie doubt herself and her mother becomes her conflict character, although Addie doesn't think she can do the poem anymore, Addie's teacher Miss.C gives her encouragement and tries to build herself up, this does …show more content…
The main character of this story is a teenage girl named Sybil Ludington, the daughter of the American general. The general's messenger was injured and the general needed to warn his troops that the British were coming, Sybil, feeling confident she could complete this task, offered herself to the position of messenger, her father was doubtful, but with no other option, he allowed Sybil to take the long journey to warn the American troops, although Sybil did get tired and doubted herself, she wanted to prove her father wrong so she continued. The conflict in this book is that for Junie B Jones, graduation week as been a wreck. The first thing was that as her classroom did invitations for the graduation to send home and the kids weren't behaving so well. One way that they weren't behaving was that they started adding silly lines to the poems that was being written by the class and Junie said one.
