Constructivism in classroom application In constructivism, learning should be practical. According to constructivists, learners need to practice the things they learn for the learning process to be meaningful. Students construct their own knowledge through interaction. Teacher’s role is to provide help for pupil s to apply existing skills to acquire new knowledge. The main activity in a constructivist classroom is solving problems. Students use inquiry methods to ask questions, investigate a topic, and use a variety of resources to find solutions and answers. The teacher create environment to explore and express students thoughts, ideas, feelings and emotions. Constructivist teaching makes students learning more meaningful and long lasting because it includes hands-on activities, collaborative learning, observations and experiments, raising questions and finding their own solutions, peer learning, healthy discussions, acquiring new ways and methodologies, compare and contrast methods and case study methods. I believe it encourages students assess how the activity is helping them gain understanding. I catch them being good and subtly correcting undesired behavior. The idea of “two stars and a wish” can be applied to promote such behaviour. Skinner’s theory states that the response a learner receives from an action can increase or decrease the likelihood of that action being repeated. So as the theory states giving reward for desired behaviour like smiley faces, praise, and keeping consequences for undesirable behaviour like omitting privileges can be adopted in the classroom. When applying the theory to a classroom setting we should not focus on one particular aspect but rather on various types of behaviour
