Not letting kids play contact sports is like not letting kids walk down the stairs. Some believe youth contact sports are a great idea, while others feel they are a bad idea for youth to play contact sports. Not letting kids play contact sports is like putting someone in a box, isolating them from everyone. Playing contact sports allows students to get exercise, meet new friends, and improve mental and physical skills. Exercise is a key factor in life, it can even make you feel happier. It can also help the overall health of your brain and it can help you have a better memory. “These sports make invaluable contributions to character development and future success of children by teaching them teamwork, discipline, self-control and triumph over adversity,” ("Maroon”). Furthermore, exercise is the most important factor in being fit. “The benefits of organized contact sports on childhood and adolescent development far outweigh the risks, given the available medical data,” ("Maroon”). Above all, exercise can help you live longer. “Research shows that retired NFL players are living as least as long as their peers and have lower rates of cancer and heart disease,” ("Maroon”).
