INTODUCTION:

1. BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE COSMETICS INDUSTRY,
Throughout history till the modern times different forms of cosmetics and toiletries have been used by both men and women to improve health, scent and appearance. From when the ancient Egyptians used elements like the lead ore and copper to make the world’s first cosmetics to the now scientifically improved products of today that can do anything from hide wrinkles, large pores, sleep lines etc. makeup has played and been a very important part of humankind for hundreds of years.
People especially women put their health at risk by trying different types of homemade combination. Women swallowed the blood of an ox just to improve their complexion. Some used burnt matches for their eyes, in some cultures women used substances like lead, arsenic and even leeches to give themselves the pale complexion that …show more content…

COSMETIC SCIENCE AND PHARMACY:

Cosmetic science is the application or use of pharmaceutical chemistry methods or procedures in the development of cosmetics. A cosmetic is any material or substance that is applied on the human body by rubbing or sprinkling or for beautification, to enhance attractiveness, maintenance of health of skin and hair, or alteration of appearance of the body provided that the action is mild. Cosmetic science deals with the effects that raw materials (colorants, moisturizers, antibacterial agents and preservatives etc.) and mixtures have on different parts of the human body such as; nails, hair, skin, lips etc.
Industrial pharmacy and cosmetic science are related fields, which focuses on research and manufacturing of new drugs and cosmetic products. A pharmaceutical scientist job description is to research and formulate new drug/cosmetic and in addition overseeing the quality control process. Having a degree in pharmaceutical sciences or being an industrial pharmacist can serve as a gateway into the cosmetic industry.
