According to a Bugs Bunny cartoon I recently watched from the 1960’s, we are currently in the far, far future and we should be hunting with rabbits with lazer type weapons. We haven’t come that far yet in weapon technology, but many inventions and advancements have come a long way. For instance, many of my co-workers do not remember the rotary telephone with the party line, or using an answering machine to get your messages while you are out. Now, the telephone has become so much more than just a device to make or receive phone calls. Today’s cell or mobile phones can do so much more, having turned into another appendage for many people, not being able to go an hour without their phone. And with this addiction, comes the dangers of social media, which is accessible at all times. How it all began The mobile phone was first invented in the early 1970s for the business or fashion executive and was usually found in a vehicle. These phones were very large and too big to be carried around as we do today. As they became a social status, the phones technology was rapidly improved upon and they became smaller and easily transportable. Social media was introduced as early as the 1960s but really became popular in the 1980s with the popularity of the home computer. Interlinking, or internet chat …show more content…

Has technology changed so immensely over the years that it now controls society? What has it done to control society? Over the years, technology has become one of the society's major resources. This relates to the use of technology to control the World State in Aldous Huxley’s, Brave New World. In the present day, we aren’t quite advanced enough to create clones or flying cars, but technology has become more of an everyday tool over the course of time.
Nicholas Carr's argument against the internet was very strong, and it persuaded me. It is very difficult for me to go against his opinion. I agree that the internet is changing us, but not in ways we think. There are long-term effects of using the internet as often as we do. He states that the internet is changing the way our brains function such as having a shorter attention span, negatively changing the way we critically think, and negatively changing our reading skills.

Cell Phones: The average teenager who gets on their phone, just for a second, each hour has the same mind as a 30 year old cocaine addict. Teens have their minds tricked into thinking they can’t live without their cell phones and social media. Teens need to be able to talk to and connect with others and learn face-to-face communication skills.
