In his article ‘Making Trains Run On Time’ (Time Magazine, 10 April, 2017, pp 32-34), Josh Sanburn discusses train congestion in Chicago. He attributes congestion levels to Chicago’s popularity as a transit point in North America and because Chicago has six of the seven biggest railroads in the country, with one quarter of rail traffic in the US traversing the city. Sanburn discusses competition between commuter rail systems, who exercise right of way between morning and evening rush hours, and freight lines, which exacerbates congestion. Sanburn cites the concern of CEO of Metra, Don Orseno, that the activity of freight trains remains stagnant during these periods, and this can cause an expensive delay to product arrival. Society has always worked to benefit the rich from the poor’s struggle “On the Subway” by Sharon Olds helps to highlight the difference and prejudice instilled to the core of individuals in society. Through the use of imagery, poetic devices, and tone she emphasizes the contrast between the two portraits in the poem. Urbanization, or the growth of cities, erupted during the Industrial Revolution. Cities were a place of work, innovation, and technology. Over the course of fifty years (1850-1900) more and more people moved to the cities, which caused more and more problems in them. The roads were inadequate in 1800, so the federal government funded the National Road in 1808 to establish its dedication to improve the roads in the nation and so then by 1839 the East and West would be tied together (309). Commerce was still inadequate even with the National Road funded which improved transportation.

After having invested decades working for the CTA, Leon Fields, retired general manager, had begrudgingly agreed to disclose some of the exclusive information regarding the tragedies of the CTA, as he, as a consequence of being an integral part of the history, had front row seats to the suicides, electrocutions, and body searches which spontaneously occurred throughout the years. “You’ve got the union watching and waiting for every opportunity to discredit the operation (Referring to innovations on the train lines which resulted in the loss of jobs),”
