“When we treat people merely as they are, they will remain as they are. When we treat them as if they were what they should be, they will become what they should be.” -Thomas S. Monson. All people are deserving of respect. This life lesson can change someone 's entire life for the better. Much like in the books, “Looking for America”, Touching Spirit Bear, and the novel Holes. In those books there are many different ways that the characters in the stories are all deserving of respect. All people are deserving of respect and you make your decisions. In the book “Looking for America” Elizabeth has her family go on a road trip from the South to the North in the Summer of 1963. During 1963 , there was segregation between the African Americans and the white people. When Elizabeth gets a drink of water she notices a sign that says Whites Only. Elizabeth didn’t expect that. After that, she told her mom what she had noticed over the water fountain. She then realised that all people are deserving of respect no matter what color their skin is. On page 458 the text states, “When I stood up, water slid down my neck and under my shirt. Over the fountain was a sign I hadn’t noticed: “Whites Only.” All people are deserving of respect. All people are deserving of respect. This life lesson is very important. Without respect, people could be completely different.
