Modern societies tend to consider discrimination on the basis of race, religion, and gender to be morally wrong. What reasons can you give for regarding such discrimination as wrong? Should members of the group that have been discriminated against be given preference in jobs and other opportunities to compensate for past discrimination?
People should not be discriminated against based on religion, race or gender because of the concept of human liberty and freedom. Everyone is born free. They may be granted certain attributes that are different from others, for example, they may be born more beautiful or stronger or have an innate musical talent. Or they may be born in better circumstances than others, for example, some are born in a rich family. However, these differences do not give people the right to feel superior above others and discriminate them. For one thing, we have no say in how we are born in. Aspects like race, religion and gender are not chosen by a person, but are what they are born in. (Some people may argue that people have a choice in terms of religion but a

We have heard about heroic acts of ordinary people saving others caught in buildings on fire or swimming against the current to rescue someone from drowning. As these incidents happen very quickly, there is usually little time for these ordinary heroes to weigh the pros and cons and consider how such acts will benefit them. They do it out of instinct, their human nature urging them to do something because deep inside they have this belief that human life is valuable. It is also difficult to claim that these people carry out such heroic acts to be praised or gain honour in society because some of these incidents happen when no one is around to witness their good
In Jeff Yang’s concept of discrimination shows that it is distinctly ambiguous. Yang’s article “Harvard Lawsuit Is Not What It Seems” it shows the viewpoint of the story from his perspective along with the opposing side. There are both negative and positive sides to this lawsuit. A piece of literature that reflects on this concept is “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr.

I enjoyed reading your post. You provided great definitions of both individual prejudice and institutional discrimination. There are two “forms” or dimensions of prejudice. One form of prejudice is known as feeling or affective prejudice (Healey & O’Brien, 2015, p. 21). This is where one has negative feelings towards certain groups and/or people of that group.
Our effort sometimes lead to the question, Will we ever truly dispose of discrimination? Although we might be able to lessen the amount of attacks of discrimination the unfortunate truth to the question is no, humans are entitled to their own thoughts and actions, even if those thoughts and actions are used to harm others. The harming effects of discrimination leaves many people emotionally hurt and sometimes physically injured, all of which can scar an individual with long
Discrimination Between Races “Prejudice is a chain, it can hold you. If you prejudice, you can't move, you keep prejudice for years. Never get nowhere with that. ”- Bob Marley.
One of the biggest issues in our country today is terrorism. Many Americans are surrounded by fear of potential attacks and many more have ideas and perceptions of Muslims rooted in their mind. Yet these thoughts play a major role in racism and islamophobia, thoughts that could contribute to more terrorism, and more harmful impacts on our Muslim brothers and sisters. Muslim communities have been under intense surveillance, mapping and identifying neighborhoods where many Muslims preside. Kamalakar Duvvuru, who teaches the New Testament in India, says, “In 2007 the Los Angeles Police Department [LAPD] launched an extensive mapping program to identify Muslim enclaves across the city.
Discrimination When people think of discrimination, the Holocaust comes to mind, but there are many more examples and ways of discriminating against others. This issue has been going on for centuries, and it is still a problem in today’s world. Discrimination is the isolating of others because of race, intelligence, and/or religion.
Critical Analysis The word discrimination can be used in many ways as the contrast between groups of people, neither good nor bad. In todays society racial discrimination has more of a negative description. It can be defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially over ethnical background and color. Over time discrimination has been viewed by many people and is considered unjust.
Discrimination is a big problem, and people get treated differently because of their race, religion, ethnicity and much
There are many concepts that underpin discrimination and many theories to draw from this paper will detail and explore the definitions, concepts, and theories such as Stereotyping, Social Identity Theory, and Conflict Theory which are all to the fore in prejudice and discrimination. It will seek to examine current research and suggest strategies based on best practice and evidence to combat discrimination and prejudice within organisations to allow for a healthy productive workforce. Prejudice is an unjustified or incorrect negative attitude in the direction of an individual based exclusively on the individual’s affiliation with a social group, a prejudiced person might not act on their attitude.
The idea of discrimination is an odd one. A human being has to look at another human being who, in some way is a little bit different, and think “This person is of lesser value than me”. Despite how strange that may sound it has played a frightening role in the history of human beings. Most notable examples are Nazi Germany’s treatment of the Jewish during World War II and the treatment of black people in America throughout its history as a country.
Another problem with race discrimination is there is a problem if someone is not a certain race, mainly African or White. The black and white race discrimination would be the biggest race discrimination in the United States of America. This race discrimination was started in 1619 when the first africans were brought to america for slavery. In 1863, President Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation declaring to free all slaves. President Lincoln said “I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated states and parts of states are and henceforward shall be free.
Discrimination is a battle many have struggled with throughout our history. There is always a group of people to treat poorly because they are different. History has shown us that we can learn to accept differences in others, but we still have a long way to go. Early in the 19th century minorities lacked many of the rights of others, but as people begin to associate themselves with minority populations they develop a greater acceptance of their differences. Often times, discrimination is oblivious.
Discrimination can go from unjust employment practices to social service malpractice like preventing certain people from being treated in a certain hospital.
People should be treated equally, and nobody deserves to be discriminated against his or her own rights. Putting race aside, internally every individual is the same human beings
