Today, in America many people do not get treated equally for various reasons. The gender pay gap is a large issue that directly concerns a little over fifty percent of the world. Women construct 50.6 percent of America’s population and still do not get paid as much as their male counterparts. Women receive just about 80 cents per one male dollar for doing the same work. There is a law that says women need to be paid equally and that law is not being enforced.
Today many Americans are being lied to by politicians, the media, and many celebrities and activists. They are spreading a myth that women in the US are being discriminated against by being paid less than their male counterparts because of sexism. For the most part this is just not true and people need to know about it. Three main reasons that cause women to be paid less is women choose different degrees and careers than men, men work longer hours, and men have jobs more dangerous than women. The fact that women are being paid less than men is true and very few people argue against this.
In our society today, women are treated differently because of their gender, are not given raises that commensurate with their station and often make less compensation than men. Women, also must often deal with sexual harassment in the workplace which leaves physical and emotional scars. As historically, in society today, women are treated unfairly in the business world because they receive less compensation than men, are
We see the feminist theory in the documentary when the managers or supervisors sexually abuse of their workers. They take the advantage of them being stronger and being in a higher position to manipulate their workers. So, they force them to have sex and afterward they laugh at them because they won’t listen to them and won’t believe them. Which in some of the cases they believe it and don’t report it at the moment and when they report it to the police and to the company it’s too hard to get evidence. Like in the case of one of the janitors, she reported what happened to her too
Studies show that businesses are less likely to hire women with children, and if women with children do get hired, they suffer an even lower pay than women in general, whereas fathers with children do not receive this punishment (now.org). Unequal pay for women is a much bigger problem than people make it out to be, which is very unfair because women deserve the same pay as men. It has been said that some experts think women will not get equal pay as men until the year 2152
While the other girls grumbled that their piece rates had dropped so that it had hardly been worth slaving…” ( Paterson, p. 86) The implication is, Lyddie is not paid by the hour, but also from how much fabric she makes. Other factory girls are not even increasing their pay, in fact their pay is only lowering. In addition to the other girls not even going to budge working because of their low pay, Lyddie has a chance to get the money she needs to reunite with her family. Therefore, if Lyddie were to sign the petition, her pay will only decrease. Lyddie is already making a good amount of money, signing the petition will only slow her down, and even worse, Lyddie could be dismissed leaving her with debt.
However, according to radical feminism, the progress made is too little and has created more problems for women. Within marriage, women do double work as paid workers and unpaid domestic workers. In the workplace, women are denied opportunities for promotion and earn less than men earn. Radical feminists call for radical restricting of the society in order to smash
In fact, women are poorer than men in all racial and ethnic groups. There are factors that contribute to these alarming rates of poverty. One factor is that women are paid less than men. Nationally, women earn less than their male counterparts even if they have the same qualification, and work the same amount of hours. Current statistics suggest that women who work full time only make 77 percent of what men make.
This is because they have lower pay and less paid leave entitlement. Women are still working in a labour market that systematically disadvantages them in terms of pay, conditions and rewards. Women have less autonomy than men do and they earn 17% or $277.70 less per week on average, full time. Hour for hour, women get less. How have rights in the workplace changed Women’s rights in the workplace include many facets, such as the right to work if pregnant.
However, the issues and complications surrounding the problem are not as black and white as the media would like it to appear to be. Regardless of this, there are many theories explaining why women are paid less than their male counterparts. As a bit of background, women account for about half of all managerial positions, but only 17 percent are in CEO or executive positions. Because of this, many question whether or not a “glass ceiling” is created for the potential that a woman can reach in her career, and therefore effecting the numbers. If more men are in higher paying jobs, then naturally the statistics are going to be skewed in favor of the them.
