Have you ever thought that possibly our tax dollars we pay every year, to go to welfare recipients may be abusing or even buying drugs with OUR money? More states need to be doing drug tests for people who try to apply for welfare. I believe that they should be able to pass a supervised drug test and a criminal/ drug related background check, to ensure that they are trustable to be given our hard earned money. They need to make it to where not just anyone can get food stamps, etc.
There are so many drug addicts in today’s generation, but one thing about them is that if a person is that badly addicted they will do anything to chase that high. They will not care about anything else, such as working. There could be so many people applying for

But yet almost every time I go into a gas station I see for my own eyes people, especially young adults using their food stamp cards to buy sodas, chip, etc. Being given a food stamp card is meant for necessities, such as milk, eggs, or bread. It is not meant for wants and cravings like sodas and junk food. In my opinion gas stations should not accept food stamps. It should be limited to grocery stores only! The employment rate can drop at anytime leaving many people without jobs. The people who are left with no jobs are going to need assistance financially taking care of their family. That help would be the government welfare. If a bunch of people are coming to apply for welfare, not just everyone should be able to get it. They should be found 100% trustable before given approval. The whole entire point of welfare is people that have it are suppose to be needing assistance from the government. It would not make sense to me for them to not be drug tested! Why would the government pay someone money, that they don’t even know if they are on drugs, and that could be going towards drugs. People are freaking out now about welfare because so many people abuse it. It pretty much is almost a proven fact, that most people on welfare are abusing it in some way, shape, or
President Obama ran over our bicycle, issuing illegal waivers to welfare’s work requirements and taking the wheels off the program. The fact is, we never won the welfare battle after all. Out of the 80 different federal welfare programs, the ’96 welfare reform really only fixed one. A third of the U.S. population received benefits from one or more of these 80 programs in 2011. According to
Since the money is taken out of citizens checks, the people have no problem voicing their opinion on the matter as they do most topics involving how tax money is used. There are people who are in favor of welfare and those who are opposed. Rebecca M. Blank, currently the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is one who is skeptically in favor of welfare. She has written several books
The U.S Government has social welfare systems that supports lower class in need. From home providing programs like “Welfare” and “Section 8 housing” to food providing programs like “Food Stamps” and “WIC “( Women, Infants, and Children ). The U.S government economy has declined immensely over the years resulting in a high unemployment rate and very high market pricing. Therefor, theres a very large group of people who are struggling financially, in need of food or shelter, cant find a job, income cant support their kids, etc .. Also there is an additional group of people mainly immigrants who simply struggle to speak the language and can’t really find there place in this country.
In Why Drug testing Welfare Recipients Is a Waste of Taxpayer Money, Darlena Cunha works to persuade that drug testing welfare recipients feeds the stereotype stigma towards those asking for the extra assistance and is actually wasting the taxpayer’s money. As soon as the page opens, there is a large image of two gloved hands holding a drug test. The picture is dark and the light is focused on a blue urine test for Cannabis and an Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC). As a result, the image automatically gives the reader a serious and eery tone.
I 'm actually torn on this issue. The current price tag to support the homeless, or possibly even the underemployed, is enormous, and what we 've been doing clearly isn 't working. Changes to how we live, and technology have rendered many jobs obsolete, or soon to be obsolete so can 't expect people to work in unskilled jobs when those jobs don 't exist anymore. There will always be people who cannot support themselves due to mental or physical challenges, and society should ensure that they are provided for. There will also always be those who, due to an event or situation, find themselves without a home or means to provide for themselves; these people need assistance for a relatively short period of time.
I think some of the drug laws that are enforced are ridiculous, for instance in the move that we watched in class stated that people are receiving mandatory life sentences. In someone cases because of the drug laws a person can’t get below a 20year sentencing. I agree with you, the system is not fair at all. If you are caught with drugs, no matter the form or type the rules need to be the same for everyone. I think that goes back to the war on drugs, and how because this was not happening it became a drug war (destruction of human life).
To me, Government handouts are ridiculous in almost all cases, simply because people know how to play the system and our people in power are too stupid to realize it. Our government really needs stricter laws and regulations on the social welfare programs, people should be required to pass a drug test, I say this because I have seen it with my own eyes, in Grand Marais more than once, people take their weekly pay check and use it for booze and drugs. Then rely on their food stamps to pay for their food. It's pathetic and it really angers me knowing that the money that they are using in food stamps to buy their food, is money that came straight out of my pocket. Granted I do know a few people who do work their butts off trying to meet ends meet and struggle to do so, those people I have much more respect for, and it doesn't bother me as much knowing my taxes are going to those
I am not saying we should get rid of food stamps. We should require able-bodied people without any dependents to work for Food Stamps. When this happened in Maine and Kansas the number of spending and people jurassicly decreased. Food Stamps is just another system that people can use to get something for free by scamming the system. This reform in food stamps would 1: Lower the spending on Food Stamps.
Abusing the System Ronald Reagan states, “We should measure welfare’s success by how many people leave welfare, not by how many are added” (qtd. in BrainyQuotes). Welfare’s success today is not being measured by how many people are leaving welfare, but how many are needing assistance. The problem is that recipients of welfare are being added by the minute, and none of them are willing to leave the program because of the benefits it provides. The United States Constitution states the federal government should provide for the common defense and promote the general welfare, but the case is that many recipients are abusing the program (Couch np). Welfare abuse is increasing greatly.
Welfare recipients should not be required to complete a drug test if other people receiving government
I think it only seems fair that before a welfare applicant is accepted it should be a requirement that he/she is able to pass a drug test before granting welfare. Too many people receiving welfare are doing drugs and are collecting money for
When people talk about welfare drug testing it seems like there is a large amount of drug abusers who are trying to receive assistance. That is not the case. Statistics show that there was not a substantial amount of positives applying for welfare in the first place. The statistics were from states who enforce welfare drug testing and they showed that an average of one percent of applicants tested positive for drugs. That number is a whole lot smaller than what the public makes it out to be.
One of those reasons being, drug testing welfare recipients could waste taxpayer’s money. The government would use tax money to administer drug test (Cunha, par. 3). Many taxpayers do not feel like they are obligated to pay for a person’s drug habit (“Editorial: Drug Testing Welfare Recipients Doesn’t Add Up,” par. 1). In Tennessee, only one person to the 800 who applied for government assistance tested positive for drugs. In Florida, during four months of drug testing , only 2.6 % of welfare recipients tested positive, which was under Florida’s illegal use of 8%, which meant that fewer people using government assistance used drugs.
Thirty-five percent of Americans recieve help from welfare every day, and if we drug test them that number would suddenly drop. Some individuals claim that drug testing would help individuals by putting them into treatment; however, there are several reasons why drug testing would not help recipients. While drug testing could recognize the individuals who need help, problems would be caused such as impacts on the person, the cost, and other impacts such as on children and poverty levels. I A. First, drug testing will cause problems with the money people are receiving. If the test is positive the recipient will have reduced income and they may not get any income at all (US Department of Health and Human Services 8).
The government already pays the disabled money whether they work or not, so they shouldn’t be receiving any more welfare money. Welfare is keeping some families alive. However, some people are not even working and are receiving money from the government to support their families. Over twenty million Americans are unemployed, but no one should be able to say that they’re not working because they can’t find a job or because no jobs are available.
