This sparked a height in incarceration rates, especially those of black men. Through the system, Alexander believes we have pushed people into second class status, and therefore our criminal justice system remains unfair. The fifth theme is due to the lying, manipulation, subterfuge, and obfuscation of the American people. Alexander (2012), believes that from day one we have been lied to by our government. The war on drugs pushed people into fear, and therefore manipulated law enforcement to go after people of color.
Did you know that more than half a million firearms are stolen each year in the United States and more than half of stolen firearms are handguns, many of which are subsequently sold illegally? This might not be very interesting to a normal person but most guns are used to kill people and that may cause some innocent person to die. According to the dictionary, arms trafficking, also known as gunrunning, is the illegal trafficking or smuggling of contraband weapons or ammunition. This is a global issue because it gun trafficking happens all over the world. Everyone in the world needs to be informed about the dangers of gun trafficking.
For example, Osama Bin Laden chose to be a terrorist because he was angry at two things: the corruption he saw in Saudi Arabia’s government and the western influence on Middle Eastern life. He organized the terrorist group Al-Qaeda which had a hand in this event. On the internet or the news, there are multiple stories of people taken hostage and forced to work for terrorist groups or engage in these sickening acts. Someone who uses violence and threats to intimidate or coerce others for a political purpose is the definition of a terrorist. It can be inferred with this definition that anyone is capable of being a
After the Colombian government was able to assassinate Pablo on a rooftop. After his death, the amount of cocaine coming out of Columbia was slowed as a whole, so the price of the cocaine rose. Also, the American government began to do a better job of arresting anyone with the possession of cocaine or anyone who was related to the business of handling and selling cocaine. America was not able to eradicate the problem but fewer businessmen used the drug and it was riskier to have the drug for being caught could result in a hard
In order to score more lucrative deals and attract viewers, news outlets and other forms of media exaggerate and falsify reports of racial profiling, causing the public to get invalid information on the topic. The mainstream media has falsified reports regarding racial profiling for years, causing the public to believe that african-americans and other racial minorities are the main proprietors in drug trafficking and violent crimes. Although the media has instilled the image that racial minorities are the majority of people involved in these types of crimes, these claims are simply not factual and lead to a false perception. News outlets in major cities have been creating inaccurate reports related to crimes and racial minorities in order
They’re events that have yet to be proven true, but our government has been exposed of committing various crimes. The U.S. Government has committed acts of terrorist on its own people, murder, kidnapping, drugging, torture, drug dealing and framing other countries. The most misunderstood debate today and in my opinion a modern-day holocaust is the issue of immigration. It is an argument that labels all immigrants as criminals, drug addicts, rapists, that tears families apart, and one that will destroy many businesses and hurt the economy. Over the past few years people have taken action toward the issue as well as other trying to knock it down. An immigration reform known as DACA was put in place to give people a way to live legally in the united states. However, nothing is perfect and with big desicion comes big consequences and big problems.
Dealing drugs is one of the uncongenial ways to make money to take care of the family. Sometimes people must do what they must do. Yes, this does have implications for sociologists. The reason considers the impact that certain products like crack cocaine have on local communities. Crack and other drugs also set many impoverished communities back because of the catastrophic effects of addiction or imprisonment (Levitt).
Chapter 2 follows the corrupt justice system. Many people are brought into the justice system because of the War on Drugs without much thought of their guilt or innocence, police just so happened to “randomly” pull them over for a traffic stop because of their skin color. Convictions for drug offenses is the biggest cause of the explosion of incarnation rates in the United States. The reader learns in chapter 3 that the police pull people over for a traffic stop because their race, and that is often what justifies the polices reasonings.
Whether it’s race, religion, gender, etc., many people encounter bigotry in different ways. Islam is one of the religions that is discriminated against the most because of the stereotypes people have brought upon it. Muslims have experienced hate crimes, the travel ban, and intense security at the airport from the assumption that all Muslims are terrorists. There have been many recent reports of people discriminating against Muslims (violently or not), proving that it’s still happening in society today. The film Remember the Titans deals with the idea of discrimination, specifically racism, in America very well.
Furthermore, the political economy of reggaeton exposes the fuzziness of elite. For instance, many of the extreme censorship reactions taken against reggaeton were partly a response to rumors that its recordings were financed by narco-trafficking. One of these scandals was the case of the famous reggaetonero, Nicky Jam, who used the Lamborghini of a Colombian drug dealer, Victor Alonso Mosquera, for his video Travesuras. The reggaetonero claimed he had no idea whose car was that until the video was shown. However, as is likewise the case with the government 's operations, the lines between legality and illegality are very tiny.
For many years Honduras has been a victim of crimes that have made the country well know as one of the deadliest nations in the world. It all started with Honduras being the location between South America and US where gangs would smuggle cocaine and other drugs across. According to IISS Armed Conflict database, the security forces of Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala are in a standoff with transnational drug cartels teying to control territory to use as transportation routes (IISS 1). Since the US counter trafficking operations have been trying to push the drug cartels out of Columbia and Mexico gangs members found shelter in parts of Honduras such as the wilderness of La Mosquitia creating fear amongst the population. For many years now they started to commit countless crimes in the country such as robberies, kidnapping, drug smuggling, and even commiting murders.
Trumped Up? When one searches the phrase "illegal immigrants" on YouTube they are assaulted with negative videos entitled "The Illegal Invasion of America," "Is Illegal Immigration Destroying America?," “American Patriots Shout Down Illegal Immigration Pushing Traitor Rep. Luis Gutierrez,” and many more. This is merely one way to see what most people in America think about illegal immigration these days. The popular opinion is that illegal immigration is a terrible thing that hurts our economy because immigrants steal American jobs. Though this topic has been largely ignored for years, it’s been brought back into the public eye by the upcoming 2016 presidential elections.
